Jamie Dornan wants to desperately be taken seriously as an A-list actor in Hollywood and that’s why he’s having a hard time shaking off the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ role that made him the household name he is today. The Irish actor recently revealed that he doesn’t want to be ‘typecast’ as Christian Grey for the rest of his career, which has definitely been the case so far.
Jamie Dornan, who is currently promoting his latest box office flick, ‘Anthropoid,’ spoke about how he’s willing to take on a variety of roles just to prove to audiences that he’s more than the sex-addicted Christian Grey that he plays in the upcoming ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ with his co-star, Dakota Johnson.
Jamie Dornan told Lara Spencer on ‘Good Morning America,’ “I think as an actor, you do just want to mix it up and do stuff that challenges you. You don’t want to be typecast. That is definitely a part of it.”
If that weren’t enough, Jamie Dornan also complained about filming back-to-back installments of the next ‘Fifty Shades’ movies for several months in Vancouver. “It’s a slog making movies. There’s way harder ways to make a living, don’t get me wrong. But a lot of energy goes into them, and if you can do two at once, I think it makes sense for everyone. It’s hard in a way for people to re-motivate themselves and get back into character.”
Clearly, Jamie Dornan is sending the message that he doesn’t want the world to see him as just Christian Grey. But considering how his other roles haven’t been as impactful on movie audiences, instead of sounding ungrateful and resistant, Jamie Dornan should embrace the fact that ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ put him on the map, even if it’s one of the most-ridiculed and mocked Hollywood movies of all time.
Jamie Dornan is being typecast as a sex symbol simply because he hasn’t proven to be a versatile actor just yet. Of course, it might take some time if not years before Hollywood really takes notice of Jamie Dornan’s true acting abilities.
Tell us CDL readers, what do you think? Does Jamie Dornan sound ungrateful for his ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ success? Do you think he has a chance at becoming successful in Hollywood or should he indeed be worried about his Christian Grey role following him for the rest of his career? Let us know your thoughts!
