The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Gina Tognoni will be out as Phyllis Summers in the coming weeks. In a shocking move, CBS fired the talented actress and rehired Michelle Stafford. The fans have been divided on how they feel about the casting switch. Through it all, Gina has been classy and careful with her words about her shocking exit.
Tognoni released a statement about her exit last week. She confirmed the reports were true, thanking CBS for the opportunity. At first, some viewers thought that she may have decided to quit as Gina has been commuting from the East coast to Los Angeles every week. However, the more news that came out on it, the more clear it was that Gina was let go with the sole purpose of Stafford returning to the role of Phyllis.
The big question then was, how long do the Y&R fans have before they have to say goodbye to Gina Tognoni’s Phyllis. At first, it was not clear. Michelle is still taping at General Hospital, so she isn’t ready to take over the role quite yet.
Gina posted to Instagram this morning, April 9, and let her followers know that their thoughts and positive messages touched her. She revealed that she will still play Phyllis for several more weeks. She added that she is still bringing life to the character and then it will be on to a new thing.
“Here we go starting our journey ❤️walking in peace with my Phyllis’. Each day is precious to me here in LA. I am still giving life to this character for a few more episodes/weeks .. Filled with Love as We count down and continue our story in new ways. BTW this is my dressing room/ sanctuary. I always sit in here and feel peaceful and centered. It’s special,” Tognoni wrote captioned her image.
It sounds like Gina will be around until early summer. That will give GH time to write Michelle’s character out or recast the role of Nina if that’s the route they want to go.
