In tonight’s The Equalizer episode, Mel attends a veterans support group. She ran the group. She helped people through their PTSD. She met a young man by the name of Eric through the group and she offered a listening ear. Eric wasn’t fully ready to talk about everything, but someone did come to Mel’s defense later.

She was ambushed by two guys. They had knives. She had nothing. She was doing her best to fight them off when someone started shooting at the bag guys and drove them away. Mel ran from the scene not long after that in case the bad guys tried to show up again. And her first call was to Harry who tried to get camera footage of what happened.

Harry was searching the area. Most of the cameras seemed to be down. There was one footage of a guy walking away from the scene with a large backpack and Mel thought that could be the sniper that saved her. They followed that man using several surveillance cameras.

They finally got a look at his face when he entered a cab. The man that saved Mel’s life wasn’t Eric. It was actually Matthew. Mel’s brother. Mel has several siblings. Her sister was judgmental and her brothers seemed to be courting trouble.

Mel had to save a different brother from organized crime. She almost got kidnapped outside of her support meeting because her brother Matthew has now done something stupid as well. Mel couldn’t get her best friend’s help right away. Robyn was busy in a CIA debrief.

CIA Director Greene wanted information on Michelle Chambers and Colton Fisk could only put her off for so long. They both had to be debriefed. Mel called Robyn on her way to it. She told her that her brother Matthew was somehow involved in two men trying to abduct her.

Robyn said she’d mention it to Fisk when she gets the chance. She was busy in her debriefing when Mel looked into her brother. They both joined the military around the same time. Mel was in the field. Her brother was supposed to be in Military Intelligence.

Only her brother lied about that. There’s no record of him ever enlisting in the military. He was involved in something so off the books that he literally wasn’t on any of the military books. Nor did he have a file with the CIA. Mel had no idea what’s going on.

What she did figure out was where Matthew was hiding. Mel realized her brother was hiding at an old arcade. It’s where they loved going as kids and the place has been closed for years. Mel did find her brother there. She told him that she could help. She also asked him why did those guys come after her.

Matthew as it happens was a part of “Red Cell”. It was a secret unit within Military Intelligence. They scrubbed Matthew’s background when he was recruited. This special unit does things that the American government doesn’t want to have traced back to them.

Fisk knew about it. He was informed about Red Cell. He didn’t know why Matthew was seemingly targeted by these people and so Matthew explained to his sister. He said that extremists within the unit had decided to follow one man. This same man advocated for a terrorist attack in Somalia that they could blame on the Somali extremists.

Matthew planned on stopping this attack, but he was too late. The attack had already happened by the time he explained everything to Mel. And he feared more attacks would happen if he didn’t stop them.

Matthew returned stateside to become a whistleblower. He still plans on doing that. He got in contact with his handler and he wanted to put a stop to Red Cell. His unit had only known about Mel because Matthew broke cover. Matthew and others in the unit went by code names.

They were never supposed to reveal their true identities or anything about themselves. Matthew ignored this because he was pinned down and he thought he was going to die. He told the man next to him to bring a message back to his sister if he died in the field.

The man he told was codename Cobra. Cobra was the one now leading the extremists. He let power corrupt him and they planned on killing Matthew before he could blow the whistle. Robyn had gotten out of her debriefing.

The director had tried to blame her for Michelle’s escape. Robyn refused to play ball and she left before she had to call a lawyer. Robyn showed up just in time for her to go in Matthew’s place to meet his handler. He had never met his handler in person before. It turns out the guy was former Red Cell. He was also best friends with Cobra.

The handler revealed the meeting to the extremists. Cobra showed up. He killed the handler and he planned on killing Matthew as well. He got Robyn instead. Robyn bought time while Mel and Matthew acted as sharpshooters. There was just too many of them. Matthew didn’t want his sister to be harmed.

He forwarded all his information on Red Cell to Harry. He then lured Cobra and other Red Cell members to an area where he planned on going out in style. It had looked like he died. Mel thought he died. She had to be dragged away from the scene by Robyn.

The information that Matthew had forwarded was financial records paying for Red Cell. Harry couldn’t make sense of it. Mel’s other brother Eddison was able to read it. They worked together to get enough dirt on Cobra. Robyn then informed Military Intelligence what Cobra has been doing.

Cobra had tried to blame everything on Matthew knowing that dead man can sing no tales. But Fisk spoke up for Robyn. He backed her and the evidence that Matthew had collected came in handy. They had enough to shut down Red Cell.

Cobra as well as his few remaining partners were arrested. Robyn made sure of that. They were handed over to the CIA and Fisk will ensure that they never see the light of day. Plus, the government felt no one needs to know about what a couple of Americans did to a Somali village.

It helped that Matthew wasn’t dead. He escaped from the literal fire fight. He was going to let everyone think he was dead until he heard about Cobra’s arrest and he knew it was safe to tell his family. Speaking of family, Detective Dante finally decided to let his father have unsupervised visits with his sons only for his dad to ghost his grandkids.

He didn’t even have the courtesy to explain to Dante what came up. Dante just thought his dad had returned to his jerk self. He was never going to give him another chance after this.

The same went for Trish. Aunt Vi and her girlfriend also might have broken. Trish realized that Aunt Vi has secrets. Secrets about Robyn that she doesn’t want to talk about and she needed time to decide whether or not they could have a relationship with so many secrets.

And Fisk meanwhile warned Robyn that someone within the CIA was coming after the both of them.

THE END!
