In tonight’s Watson episode, the great Sherlock Holmes’s return came with consequences. It always does with this man. He was believed to be dead. Watson saw him go over the Waterfall with Moriarty. He assumed both were dead. Only Moriarty showed up again last year.
Sherlock was showing up this season. He broke up Watson’s marriage last time and the poor man just got into a new relationship. He was finally prioritizing himself. He take breaks from work. People were wondering if he went soft and so naturally the juiciest case he caught happened right before Sherlock came.
Sherlock returned asking Watson how his day was. They were best friends. Sherlock disappeared on him for a year and Sherlock thought they should start rebuilding trust. So, he really wanted to know how Watson’s day went. Watson explained it started when he sought out the advice of a psychiatrist.
He went to the professional to see if there was any hope for Ingrid. Ingrid was a brilliant doctor. She was also a sociopath if not borderline. She came clean with the team when she needed to and she was going to therapy now.
Watson wanted to know if he could trust her enough to rehire her. He needed a neurologist. Ingrid was the best. The team wanted her back. Shinwell wanted her back. Watson just wasn’t sure if he could trust her again and so he got professional advice for people like Ingrid.
He demanded to know if they can be saved. He didn’t get the answer when Mary saw him. Mary needed his help. She has a doctor that was suffering from what looked like the flu and the woman was demanding to see someone of Watson’s renown because she didn’t think it was the flu.
Dr. Amelia Woodward was in fear for her life. She made arrangements for her brother living in care. She asked Watson to make sure her directives get sent to her cousins. Watson had to ask her why she was so scared. Amelia revealed that she study the artic permafrost.
They were studying it because the icebergs were melting. When they melt, they release whatever viruses were locked into the ice. Amelia didn’t even go on the journey for herself. Or the book she made on the topic. She needed money for her brother’s extended care and that was quite expensive.
She kept digging out in Siberia. She found the woolly mammoth. They were bringing it stateside when they the expedition got sick. One man was being interviewed in Watson’s office when he collapsed. Ingrid was nearby. She wanted to confront Watson on why he was contacting her therapist.
She saw the man on the ground. She rushed over to administer CPR. She believed it was a heart attack until he died and Watson connected him to the expedition. It also meant both Watson and Ingrid were exposed to the zombie virus.
They were sectioned off. The same with the expedition team. The symptoms weren’t showed up anytime soon for Ingrid or Watson. It gave Watson an idea. He checked what they ate on this expedition. Someone brought a heavy bag of baking soda. They didn’t have the zombie virus.
They were suffering from food poisoning. Typhoid was in the gumbo. It also showed that one member of the expedition team was a killer. They almost killed Amelia too because she developed an abscess in her stomach and had required surgery to fix her stomach.
Amelia didn’t do this to herself. No matter how much money she wants to earn for her brother’s care. Another member was dead. That left three. Sherlock helped Watson to determine it was the fan that did it. He was from New Orleans and they ate gumbo that night. He poisoned the food.
He gave them typhoid because he was a huge fan of Amelia. He loved her book. He now wants to do anything he can to get the word out. Sherlock helped Watson see that this mega fan was dangerous. Sherlock then told Watson how he survived the fall.
Sherlock was never there that day. He called two rivals to set up a meeting with him and they did what villains do. They tried to kill each other believing they were killing Sherlock. Sherlock was tired of being Sherlock Holmes – the world’s greatest detective. He faked his death to get away from the persona. He wanted a new start. A new mystery. He was heading to Pittsburg because something there caught his eye.
He needed to borrow money from Watson as well. Sherlock was super rich. It’s just he gave away that wealth when he chose to fake his death. He didn’t want Watson losing his clinic. He also didn’t want to stand in the way of Watson growing into himself. He wasn’t a sidekick anymore.
Their poisoner was arrested and Ingrid was rehired as Watson’s neurologist.
And Sasha met her biological uncle. She saw Mary reunite with her brother and his family. He made her question if her biological family ever wanted to contact her. She looked into it. Her uncle wanted to meet her. He was even willing to bombard her phone until she met with him. So, she did. She met him and she was finding out about her culture.
THE END!
