Camilla Parker-Bowles almost destroyed Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding day. Diana was appalled when she found out that Prince Charles gave his secret lover a special present right before their reception. Even though Charles reportedly admitted to Diana that their intimate relationship was over, he still told her that he considered Camilla to be one of his closest friends.
It’s no secret that Princess Diana always felt frustrated by Camilla’s presence in Prince Charles’ life. She famously said that there were always three people in her marriage. And apparently her problems with Camilla began from the very start. Even though Charles told Diana that he was no longer intimate with Camilla, she didn’t like the fact that she was a constant presence in his life.
According to author Sally Bedell Smith in her new Prince Charles biography, she says that Diana was appalled when she found out that Charles had given Camilla a present on their wedding day.
Bedell Smith says that Charles had given gifts to a few of his close friends ahead of his wedding ceremony. One of the friends was Camilla Parker-Bowles. He reportedly gave her a gold bracelet that left Diana so devastated on her wedding day that she “bawled her eyes out” right before the ceremony.
Bedell Smith writes in her book, “Camilla’s was a gold bracelet personalized with a blue enamel disk engraved with the initials ‘GF.’ The monogram stood for ‘Girl Friday,’ Charles’s nickname for his intimate ‘friend.’ Sensing a threat, Diana asked Charles if he still loved Camilla. His reply was genuine but ingenuous: he explained that she had been ‘one of his most intimate friends’ but that their intimacy had ended.”
The only person who knows what the truth is of course Prince Charles but there’s no way that he’ll want to talk about it now. That chapter in his life is done, over and dealt with. With that being said, It’s no wonder that Prince Charles is frustrated with the media continually bringing up his wedding day and marriage drama with Princess Diana. The last thing he wants to do in his life right now is bring back painful memories from those days.
