General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that changes are brewing in Port Charles. In an interview with ABC Soaps in Depth, GH co-head writers offered some great story hints. Shelly Altman and Chris Van Etten are excited about what they’ve got cooking up. Let’s take a look at how things could shift on General Hospital in the coming months.
For starters, Van Etten and Altman want the hospital to be the focus. GH should be the real hub of PC. With characters like Sonny (Maurice Benard) around, there are always going to be mob stories and crime drama. However, it’s important to remember the show’s roots. General Hospital is the name of the ABC soap, so GH should be highlighted as often as possible.
“That should be the center of the show,” Van Etten said. “We always look for that balance.” GH writers even like to get the mobsters in on medical material sometimes. Sonny’s certainly been hanging out at GH a lot thanks to Mike (Max Gail). Van Etten pointed out, “We have also found ways to tie him to the hospital, particularly with the story revolving Mike’s illness.”
That trend should continue with other characters. General Hospital spoilers say some big storylines are looming and they’ll definitely bring plenty of GH scenes. As Drew (Billy Miller) works to get his memories back, he’ll undoubtedly need quality medical care. Drew will have to be monitored closely as Andre (Anthony Montgomery) performs this risky procedure.
Viewers can also expect Drew to interact with Griffin (Matt Cohen) more often. He may rely on Griffin’s expertise as he deals with returning memories and any procedure side effects. That should be another intriguing way to make General Hospital front and center.
Van Etten and Altman also like to give new characters GH-related jobs. Sometimes that means newbies are doctors and nurses, but not always. For example, Stella (Vernee Watson) was given a career as a social worker. She still spends most of her days helping out people at General Hospital, so that works out well with the writers’ GH-centered goal.
General Hospital spoilers say Elizabeth Hendrickson will portray a brand-new character soon. After she arrives in Port Charles, she’ll need to find a position somewhere. Will GH hire her? Since Hendrickson’s character may have a past with Drew, it’d be interesting to put her at General Hospital along with Kim (Tamara Braun). They could clash at work, but Drew would be the real source of conflict!
Altman said, “When we bring in a new character who doesn’t need to be in a different field, we often look for ways to incorporate them into the hospital.” Unless there’s a special reason for Hendrickson’s character to work elsewhere, she’d undoubtedly be a fantastic addition at GH. They can always use knowledgeable, hard-working staff members.
