The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) life will veer off the rails as she deals with Arturo’s (Jason Canela) betrayal and his coming departure from Genoa City. News that Jason Canela is leaving Y&R removes a talented actor from the cast, while also creating holes for the Wisconsin-based residents who are connected to Arturo.
Last year’s arrival of this particular character initially established a new contractor who also became involved with Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). That positioned Arturo as a new rival for Victor (Eric Braeden) and as a bachelor who other female GC residents would surely take note of and did.
As last spring turned into summer, Arturo’s backstory expanded. One day he saw Rey (Jordi Vilasuso), who was his estranged brother. Their shared history involving Mia, an as yet uncast character), was told and then, Lola (also an as yet uncast character) was eventually referenced.
Arturo and Rey’s younger sister (Lola, Sasha Calle) was said to be living with Arturo, but wasn’t seen for awhile. Miss Rosales’ arrival was followed by Mia (Noemi Gonzalez), allowing this family’s expansion to reach the four mark. Gonzalez’ dynamic character hit town as expected. Plenty of dust has been kicked up ever since, with effects likely including Arturo’s reason for departure.
Abby’s insight into Arturo and Mia’s impulsive get-together naturally causes a strong reaction. Abby was assured by her fiance that Mia was part of his past. But what happened a few weeks ago, during the rewritten scene where Marturo reconnected, followed the scary hair-pull incident at the GC Athletic Club.
Now, with Abby’s worst fears realized, it’s possible that Mrs. Rosales could be carrying Arturo’s child. Playing out that type of projected plot point before, or after Canela’s departure will be challenging.
Canela’s exit from Y&R isn’t a full surprise, as buzz had recently appeared in this regard. His character was a good one and the actor performed consistently. Arturo appeared to have years of plot to play, but the show’s new decision-makers thought otherwise.
As for Abby’s road forward, she has no immediate romantic option. Except for Stitch (Sean Carrigan), Ordway’s character has no history of stability with anyone else. So, Miss Newman’s lovelorn ways continue, which is a shame as she and Arturo were a good couple with genuine chemistry.
Y&R is shifting various storylines during this transitional period. Abby’s future is certainly in doubt, as her personal life is fully in flux. Noemi Gonzalez’s future on Y&R remains in doubt both due to Arturo’s departure and her own career opportunities. Do you think we will hear that Mia Rosales is leaving town soon?
