In tonight’s America’s Got Talent episode, America’s Got Talent was back tonight. Heidi was out this season, but it’s okay because they brought back Mel B. She was the only one that could rile Simon up worse than the bad acts of the night. It especially galls the both of them when they agree on something.
The first act of the night was Erick Booker. He was a retired subway conductor from NYC. His talent was grossing people out. He’s willing to drink disgusting stuff like pickle juice, hotdog water, hot sauce, and worse. Mel was not having it from the start.
Mel quickly pressed the reject button. Sofia then pressed hers. Mel pressed Howie’s. She even pressed Simon’s as well. Everyone called Mel grumpy. She wasn’t. Or at least not then. She was genuinely horrified. She worried about Eric’s stomach. The others were too and, while Simon claimed he would have said yes if Eric went a little bigger, that’s a lie because he also blamed Mel for jinxing their twentieth season. The next act of the night was Team Recycle. They were a dance group that met fifteen years ago.
The dance group claimed their name because they take a little from everywhere to make it new. They were great dancers. They also didn’t stay put on the stage. They used the whole room to their benefit and they livened the whole audience. Three of the four judges gave them a standing ovation at the end because they were that impressed. It was just Mel that didn’t stand. Nor did she give them a yes. She wasn’t all that taken away by what happened and that’s when she truly earned the grumpy moniker from earlier.
Team Recycle was the first act through tonight in spite of Mel. Next up was Zak Mirz. He’s a magician. He saw David Blaine on tv as a kid and he knew right away that he wanted to do that for the rest of his life. He was now a married father of one. He told his daughter that they could open her present early tonight if he impressed everyone with his magic. Simon was worried for him. He didn’t need to be because Zak was a showman. He managed to get everyone down the path he set. He wowed them with his magic.
His early present to his daughter was exactly what Simon chose. She now gets a huge teddy. Her dad also gets to passed to the next round. After him, there was Light Wire. They were another dance group. It was created by brothers. One of whom was on the spectrum. The brothers used that to create a dance company unlike any other. It was interpretive dance mixed with shadow dancing a little storytelling. Words weren’t enough to describe the magical experience. It kept everyone engaged and the dance group earned themselves the first Golden Buzzer of the season.
It came from Simon of all people. He loved Light Wire that much. They were a tough act to follow and even the next guy knew it. Michael Palace was a rapper. He was from Connecticut. Or as he put on the road to Boston from New York. He was also a very good rapper. It was a little English and a little Spanish. He didn’t know much Spanish. He grew up in an Argentine household where he felt like he didn’t belong in that community nor the one outside of the home. He also cleverly used a derogatory name for Latin descent people who don’t speak Spanish and he turned it on its head. He made it positive.
It’s great when they can turn pain into something positive. Michael got through to the next round. The next act on the other hand was the first animal act of the night. This woman brought along her pet bird named Gallanger. She claimed Gallanger could sing. No one got to see it. Gallanger refused to perform and left his singing partner/owner hanging. Maybe it was the age. He forty-three. He had the right to decide what to do and when to do it. There was also a contortionist that freaked out everyone.
It’s amazing what he could do. The problem lies in the fact that no one can watch all of it. It freaks them out. The part he did with his ribs was weird. The part with Adam’s apple looked painful. He still got a standing ovation from the audience and three of the four judges at the end. Simon was alone in remaining seated. Which wasn’t him being negative. He really enjoyed the show. His favorite part was the end when their contortionist was all relaxed like he was watching tv and not rearranging his bones a minute ago. And that got him through to the next round.
The Aussies came over for the next one. Their names are Marty and Michael. They became best fri4ends in high school and have stayed close ever since. Their act was basically “Jacka**” come alive. It was a tv show in the 90s and early 00s. It was very stupid albeit entertaining show. Marty and Michael couldn’t replicate it. The judges pressed their reject button to get rid of them. They were followed by Jordan Blood. He was a street performance back in New Orleans. He has a girlfriend and a infant son.
Jordan tried out for AGT because he got a sign. His block where he performs at night came under terror attack. He could have been killed, but then he realized he needed to level up and there’s no better place to do so than at AGT. He wanted to provide a stable living for his family. He didn’t want to be stuck on that corner any longer and he has the voice that blew everyone away. Jordan had a cop and a lawyer for parents. He rebelled. He went to live with his grandfather and it was his grandfather that told him that music can heal all things. Even people.
Jordan got the second Golden Buzzer of the season. Howie felt his story and his voice deserved it. The others agreed. Jordan’s girlfriend was so happy. Their infant didn’t know what was going on and he too was smiling. The next act was a couple. They met, got angry, met again, missed their chance, and finally got together. They were an aerialist/skating pair. Their act was a little scary and exciting at the same time The couple were truly talented. They also made people laugh with their stories. Drama is great onstage! They got their yes and they were moving onto the next round.
The next lady had some daring to her. Her name is Sandy. She was from Tennessee. She was seventy and wasn’t afraid to show her midriff. She used to be a dancer. She gave it up to start family. She just celebrated a big anniversary. She felt now was the time to put herself back out there. Now, she and her friends put on a belly dancing and sword dancing act that was all about them getting their groove back. It wasn’t to advance or win. They were there for a funny story back home. They got everything they needed tonight. Mel was just too grump to appreciate it.
She alone pressed her reject button and that could be her in the next twenty years.
THE END!
