Elijah is bloody and chasing a woman. He bites into her neck as she screams. He comes to in the crypt and yanks at the chains but his mother tells him he won’t be able to break them. She asks if he’s having sweet dreams. He tells her to get out of his head and she says it wasn’t her. She tells him to get his bearings because they need to talk. She asks who he was dreaming about and asks if it was Hayley, is new plaything, or someone else.

She says he’s not going anywhere until he hears her out. She says she wants him back in the family but as a witch, not a vampire. He tells her she’s crazy and demands she let him go now. She calls him a savage when he shows fang and says he’s a demon wearing the skin of her son. Esther says the first woman he destroyed was a sweet young widow in their village. She reminds him it was the doppelganger Tatia. He says he loved her and she killed the girl.

Esther says she’s going to show him the true monster that he is and says then he’ll beg for her salvation. Back in ancient times, the village is celebrating a harvest season with animal offerings. We see Elijah watching Tatia and Klaus trying to steal a kiss from her. Esther says she only had eyes for Elijah. Tatia approaches him and says she has chosen to give her heart again to a strong, fierce, protective and yet gentle man and tells him it’s him.

She touches his face and he takes her hand. He goes to kiss her and she says it’s not romantic to kiss while the pigs are slaughtered. He kisses her anyway and says they should set the pig free. Esther says that was just the beginning and Elijah reminds her that Esther killed Tatia to keep Klaus’ wolf side at bay. Esther says he’s not remembering accurately. Klaus threatens Kol (but doesn’t know who he is yet) and Cami says he can’t kill the kid or Davina.

He agrees and hands over the knife and tells her to get the car so they can take Davina to the hospital. She goes to get the car. Then Klaus gives away that he knows it’s Kol and his brother tells him he guesses the jig is up. Klaus says he doesn’t mind he’s alive again but isn’t acting right. Kol says Cami will be upset if he kills her and Klaus calls out to her that he changed his mind about killing her.

She doesn’t answer and he goes outside and finds that Mikael is gone along with Cami. Klaus leaves a voice mail for Elijah to tell him that Mikael has Cami and the white oak stake. He tells Kol to wake up Davina so she can get Mikael back under control. Kol refuses to help and Klaus tells him they’re not done then takes off. Kol tries to wake Davina so they can go.

He gets a call and doesn’t take it then he gets a little head tremor, his nose bleeds and the phone rings again. He takes the call from Finn and tells him to quit magicking him like that. Finn says he doesn’t like voice mail. He asks if he has the stake and Kol says there’s been a snag but he has it under control. Kol tells him that Davina is working on a spell to unlink Klaus from the others so they can kill him without killing the other vamps.

Finn asks how she’s working the spell and Kol says he doesn’t know. Finn tells him to get the spell done or kill the girl. Finn says their mom needs Klaus alive and connected. Mikael drags a protesting Cami through the woods. She tells him Klaus will find him. She says she knows how much pain Klaus’ bite causes and he says when he feeds he’ll be restored. He tells her that he won’t feed on her because he wants to use her as leverage.

Cami says the enmity between he and Klaus is ridiculous and says he’s holding it against Klaus that another man fathered him. Mikael says she’s an enabler of the weak and it’s no wonder Klaus likes her. He drags her off toward the sound of music and says where there is music, there’s food. They lurk outside a hillbilly Halloween party and Mikael says it’s perfect.

Kol goes back inside the cabin and looks over Davina’s spell notes. He sees a Kandahar root and says she must be using that as a binder. He wonders where she found it and he chants while holding it. She wakes and asks about Klaus. He says he smashed the place up and left to hunt down her serial killer friend. She asks about the stake and he says the serial killer took it.

She calls out for Mikael and is upset that her bracelet isn’t working. She says if the bracelet isn’t working, Mikael can kill Klaus and all her friends will die too. She says she has to finish her spell now. Hayley comes back to see Marcel with an update on the wolves. She thanks him for helping. He tells her to thank Elijah and she says she can’t find him anywhere. Marcel says Oliver was going to help him and she says Ollie is missing too. She and Marcel head out to find them.

Esther asks Elijah if he’s hungry and says it’s horrible to feed on the blood of others. She says she and his father just wanted to make them strong but instead cursed them all. We see back int eh day a pile of dead bodies. Elijah approaches Klaus and offers him a cloak. Klaus asks what he is and how many did he kill. Elijah says he tore six villagers apart. Elijah helps him stand and Klaus asks what he’s become.

Elijah says he reminds him of the wolves in the village with the curse of the full moon. He tells Klaus that Mikael is furious and is sure this can only be passed through birth. None of the other kids have it. Klaus cries and says Mikael must not be his father. Elijah says this changes nothing for any of his brothers or sister. We see Tatia creeping through the woods. She sees the bodies and flees. He chases her down.

Now, Elijah says he compelled Tatia to forget the bodies but Esther says he had only been a vampire for a few days and didn’t have mastery of his skills. We see him chasing down Tatia. He tells her he won’t hurt her and that he loves her. Esther says she thought he would protect Tatia and marry her. Elijah says he would never have hurt her. She says he did.

Tatia tells Elijah that his mother asked for her blood but she has no idea what dark magic would come from it. She calls Elijah a monster. He says he’s not. She has blood on her hand and his fangs pop out despite himself. Esther tells him he needs to remember it all. He tells Tatia he doesn’t want to hurt her and tells her to run. He grabs her and sinks his teeth into her neck.

Esther says he was a predator she created and Tatia became his prey. Elijah says she’s lying and says she killed Tatia to get her blood to keep Klaus’ hybrid curse at bay. She tells him that he doesn’t need to believe her, he just needs to remember. He’s in total denial. Klaus chases his dad through the forest. He sees some blood on a tree. He presses on and sees a group of people standing wearing masks.

They are all compelled and threaten Klaus with the stake. Klaus calls out to Mikael and says the theatrics only delay the inevitable. The rednecks attack and Klaus starts taking them out. Kol tries to discourage Davina from working the spell. She says she can give him a list of people who underestimated her. He then offers to help her and says he’s good at what he does. She agrees and says – let’s do this.

Cami tells Mikael that she used to try and convince Klaus that there was good in everyone, even him. She says Klaus told her he had no idea how deep his hatred for Klaus ran. Mikael says he was hopeful that Klaus would be a great warrior and was actually happy when he found out that he wasn’t his son. Cami says Esther’s infidelity isn’t Klaus’ fault.

Mikael tells her that he got Heinrich killed with his wolf obsession and then he killed his mother then turned the whole family against him. Cami tells him that all his hatred and violence across the millennia has done him no good and has made him miserable and the world worse. He doesn’t care. He tells her his wound isn’t healing and says he needs more food. She reminds him he said he wouldn’t eat her and he says when times are tough, even the devil eats flies and he goes for her throat.

Klaus fights off the last of the rednecks and his phone rings. He says he’s busy and asks Hayley what she needs. She tells him Elijah is missing and there’s a mess of werewolf and vampire blood. She says she needs him to track it and he says he has more pressing matters. She asks what’s more important than his brother. He gives her the 411 on Mikael, the stake and Tunde’s knife then also tells her that his insane father has Cami.

Marcel hears this and looks distraught. Klaus tells her that by day’s end either he or his father will be ash and says if she finds Elijah to send him to help deal with Mikael. He hangs up. Kol and Davina sit on the floor of the cabin and chant. She tells him to stop and says it’s not working. He says maybe she’s doing it work. She tells him to stop chanting and says she’ll use his power and chant. But when she touches him, she sees everything that happened while he was out and knows he’s an Original (or was).

She calls him a liar and they duel with magic. She kicks his ass with magic and he tells her that his mother told him to kill the spell or her and says he likes her. He calls her off and explains that you don’t disappoint his mother. He says she did bring him back to life but says she’s mad as a hatter. But then he also tells her the killer she made her pet, his father, is even more of a lunatic than his mother.

He says he had to free Mikael. He offers his hand and tells her to read it all from him. He says he’s a Mikaelson but says he hates them all. She tells him to show her how he broke the spell on her bracelet. He agrees. Esther tells Elijah that he brought Tatia to her for healing but says she was already dead by the time he got there. Esther says it was too late and told him she could make it all go away.

We see Elijah, back in the day, kneeling. She works a spell to make him forget that he killed the woman he loved. She says he did exactly as she told him and then says he created a place in his mind to store the memories of his victims. She says she constructed a red door in his mind to hide all the bad and vicious memories and told him if he was clean and neat, no one would know what he really was.

She says that’s why his hands are always clean and he’s always in a neatly pressed suit. Because it keeps the truth locked away. Esther says a thousand years is a long time and says the red door was only intended to hold one secret and is now bursting at the seams. She asks him how long will it be before Hayley’s body is also behind the door.

Esther tells Elijah that she will give he and Hayley new bodies and they can be human and even have a child together. Elijah tells his mother she won’t break him and Esther says he’s already broken, that they all are, but says she’s there to fix them all. Kol and Davina walk through the woods and he explains that bleeding power from a magic is tricky. She wants to take the power from the white oak stake.

He says she’s being too ambitious but she says to tell her the spell. He says her best hope is to disable it for a while. He asks if she’s just going to drive around looking for him and she says she made sure she could always find Mikael even without the bracelet. Klaus finds Mikael with a bloody Cami. He tells Klaus he’ll drain the rest of her as Klaus watches while he burns. They grapple for control.

Kol tells Davina that they need to work the spell together. He tells her to take his hand, his power and channel him. Michael is down and Klaus tells him he’s not as weak as he remembers. Klaus moves to save Cami when Mikael throws the knife at her. This costs him and Mikael plunges the stake into his chest. Davina chants and the spell is working. Mikael yells at Klaus’ body asking why it’s not burning.

Mikael comes out and tells her to return the power to the stake. Inside, with Mikael gone, Cami tries to pull the stake out. The two witches slap him back with magic but then have to break the power hold and Mikael swoops in and bites Davina. Then he heads back in to finish Klaus and is angry to see that Cami pulled out the stake. He goes to attack a weakened Klaus and Marcel is there and attacks.

He gets the jump on Marcel but then Hayley is there and knocks him back. Davina is okay and also steps up. It’s Klaus, Davina, Hayley, Marcel, Kol and Cami all face him down and Klaus asks Mikael if he wants to beg for his life. Mikael tells Klaus to come face him like a man when he’s ready without the fools and women defending him. He speeds away knowing he can’t win the day.

Davina checks on Kol and he says he’s just a little light headed after being knocked ass over tea kettle by his dad. Marcel comes over and chews out Davina for risking her life. He also chastises her for bringing the insane vampire hunter back from the dead. Kol tells Marcel that’s enough. He tells Marcel they’re all friends. Marcel asks Davina to stay put and says he’ll handle Klaus.

Kol tells her they need to get out of there because Klaus isn’t a forgiving sort. She says she’s not afraid of him – she has the white oak stake. She says she’s going to get even with Klaus and he’s going to help but says she agrees they need to leave. Klaus tells Cami she pulled the stake out just in time. She says it’s the least she could do for the times she told him that Mikael didn’t need to die.

Klaus says this is the first time he’s seen Mikael run. Hayley and Marcel checked and he’s really gone. Marcel reminds Klaus that if he dies, so does Marcel and Hayley says a lot of people do. Then she tells Klaus they have another problem. Esther tells Elijah he’s going to hang there while the memories haunt him and drain his strength and hope. She says he’ll reconsider her offer of a new life, rid of his demons and in peace.

Then Hayley runs in and bites Esther. She tells Elijah she would have ripped her heart out but says she’d just body jump. She asks Elijah how to free the chains and he tells her the charm to break. She tells him he needs to feed and bites her arm. He says he can’t because he wants her and his need for her may cause him to lose control. She says she’s not afraid and pulls him into a passionate kiss then offers her neck. He sinks his teeth in.

Elijah thinks this is real, but it’s not. Finn is there and asks what she’s done to Elijah. She says she’s letting him dream – we see he’s still strung up with a slack look on his face. Esther says she has to show him not only the horrors of the past but a better world to come. Elijah pulls away from Hayley’s throat then goes back for seconds because he can’t stop. Esther says by the time he wakes, he’ll know that there is no other path but her offer to find peace.

THE END!
