Now, her dear brother screams her name in fury. Elijah tells her to go but Rebekah says they are trapped. She tell Elijah that Klaus has the white oak stake and he tells her he brought it for her. Elijah orders her away again and she takes off at a run through the cemetery. Elijah says to leave Klaus to him. Elijah tells him they need to end this now. Klaus calls him a traitor and Elijah says he can’t let hm hurt his sister. He asks how long he can defend her and Elijah says for as long as it takes and by whatever means necessary.

Marcel talks to Rebekah and tells her to stay safe and promises to save her. She tells him that she’s trapped and he says he’s got Davina working on a loophole. She tells him she doesn’t want to go back to running from her brother. He tells her to buy some time to give him time to work with Davina. Marcel brings Davina some candles and other treats so she can get back to herself. He tells her the witches are celebrating because all but one of the girls from the Harvest have been resurrected. He says the other witches say they communed with their ancestors while dead and came back stronger. Davina tells him there was nothing but cold and empty, infinite darkness. Marcel tells her he’s sorry and she says she doesn’t want to talk about it.

Elijah and Klaus are still facing off when the sun comes up. Rebekah hides in a tomb and listens. Klaus reminds Elijah that he can kill him to get past him and reminds him he caused him great pain when he stabbed him with the knife. Elijah tells him that he looks like their father. Klaus blows up and says none of them know what it was like to be on the receiving end of their father’s rage and that he’s forgotten. Elijah says he has not forgotten.

We see Elijah and Klaus as boys and him teaching Klaus to shoot a bow. Michael comes up and snatches it and tells him he’ll never be more than a burden. He backhands him and Elijah tries to defend him. Michael kicks him in the stomach and says he needs to be made stronger. Klaus tries a run around and Elijah blocks him again – he tells Klaus to be better than their father was and to show mercy rather than petty cruelty. Klaus says Rebekah has wronged him. She steps out and tells him her guilt is no more wrong than his. She says before he kills her, she will tell him why he drove her to the lengths she went to.

In the church attic where Davina hides, Cammie come to her and they hug. She asks what happened to her and Davina tells her she died and was alone but then heard “them” – voices whispering. She says it was the ancestors that were angry because she used her magic against other witches and that they would do terrible things to her if she ever misused her magic again. Kieran gets a recap from Marcel about his Klaus problem. He recounts that his only hope is that Cammie can talk Davina into helping. He tells him he’s basically screwed and Marcel reminds him he’s been hexed and also desperately needs Davina. Kieran say he came back to New Orleans to help bring balance but that Marcel has made their situation hopeless by letting Klaus take over the city. Kieran tells him that there is no hope and that Marcel will tear him into pieces.

Klaus calls out for the trial of Rebekah Michaelson. He tells her she’s accused of betraying her own blood. He asks what her plea is and she tells him to shut up. She tells him he was hateful and denied her the freedom to love. She says she called Michael to chase him away. She says he was cruel and vindictive and he insists that he only tried to protect her. He said there were leeches preying on her and she asks why he couldn’t let her love Marcel since he too loved him. She reminds him he was once her beloved brother who protected her and gave her gifts. She says she wanted to be just like him. Elijah reminds him that no one has stood loyally by him for so long as Rebekah has – not even himself. He says it’s Klaus that has forgotten.

Elijah tells him he remember the day their Father beat a teenaged Klaus with a whip so mercilessly he thought he would die. We see Rebekah come in and hold a sword on their Father and tell him she won’t let him hurt Klaus. He snatches the sword from her and stalks out. Klaus says she betrayed him out of lust for Marcel. Klaus says if she can admit that her great love Marcel manipulated her to take over the city.

She insists they loved each other but he asks why Marcel didn’t come after her after the city burned. She tells him she brought Michael there because he was a lesser evil than her bastard brother and given the choice she would do it again. He leaps at her and nearly stabs her. Elijah intervenes and snags the white oak stake. Elijah orders her away and she goes. He tells Klaus he has to deal with him now since he didn’t want to listen to their sister.

Cammie talks to Davina and says the witches lied to her and abused her by forcing her to take part in the Harvest. She tells Davina how it was after her twin brother died. She says the sadness was swallowing her up but she had to make the choice not to let it. Davina tells her it’s not that simple. She says the witches aren’t done with her. Marcel comes upstairs and overhear. She says Marcel wants her to help Rebekah and asks Cammie what she wants. Cammie admits that Kieran has a hex on him but she wants to help Davina. She says the ancestors told her the only ones that could help her were the witches that hate her. She asks how she can go back to them.

Rebekah talks to Marcel and finds out Davian can’t help. She says Klaus provoked her and they argued. She tells him that Klaus said that Marcel seduced her into bringing Michael there. She says she wishes they were still on the run. Marcel insists Klaus won’t kill her and she says he will and will also kill him. She says she never thought about dying before and tells him she’s terrified. She tells him to run before the spell life and Klaus can get out of the cemetery. She tells him to go and not look back.

Klaus asks what he’ll do since he has Tunde’s blade which can torment him and the white oak stake which can kill him. Elijah says he won’t kill him. He tells Klaus that he loves his sister and has to protect her. He reminds him when they were loving children together. Klaus insists that the fond memories make her betrayal worse. He says Rebekah has always hated him and Elijah says he has no idea what she would have done for him.

Elijah tells him of a night when she tried to kill Michael to protect him. Klaus says it’s a lie but Elijah tells him he saw it and says she would have done it if he hadn’t stopped her. Elijah says he regrets stopping her. He says Rebekah can be quick to love and has a short temper but she loves him and that his bad treatment of her has broken her heart. Elijah says he can’t blame her for summoning Michael and he says he can. He makes a run at Rebekah again and Elijah stops him again. Klaus says if he wants to protect Rebekah, he will have to stake him for good.

Klaus tells Elijah that he is the same abomination that he is, he just dresses it up better with manner. Klaus opens his arm and tells him to use the white oak stake. Elijah says he won’t kill him, but might make hm suffer. Klaus says Elijah is still clinging to the hope of redemption. Klaus charges his brother and slams Tunde’s blade into him. He asks Elijah how it feels. Rebekah comes out and tells him that she’ll decide who lives and who dies. She has the white oak stake in her hand.

Elijah lies on the ground suffering and says she’ll stop it. Rebekah tells her that all she did was love Marcel and he should have been happy for them instead of fearing losing them them both. She says there is no one to blame but himself. He asks her where Marcel is and says she left him trapped with him.

Marcel comes to see Genevieve who is the new head of the coven. She reminds him that he has no control over them anymore and has no right to ask her to lower the boundary spell. He tells her a treaty with the vampires is the smart move. He tells her if she’ll help him now, he’ll make sure the vamps stay out of the cauldron. Genevieve says they want Davina. He tells her they have done too much to her and she says it’s his fault she suffered because of his betrayal. She says she will teach her how to use her powers and keep her safe. G says she’ll break the spell if he delivers Davina.

Klaus tells Rebekah it’s not a fair fight the two of them against each other. He tells her Marcel would be there if he really loved her. He tells her if she admits that she wanted him dead at Michael’s hand, he’ll let her help Elijah. He screams at her to admit it. Rebekah says maybe she did want him dead. Klaus looks horrified and he grab the stake and runs it through her stomach. She collapses.

Elijah lies on the ground suffering. Klaus sits atop a tomb. Rebekah walks up to him. She asks why he missed her heart and he says maybe he did or perhaps he never meant to kill her and just wanted her to feel the fear he felt when their father came for him. Klaus tells her she accuses him of being evil yet she conspired to kill her flesh and blood. She tells him he made her life a living hell. He tells her he loved her, Elijah, all of the family. He comes to her and says he can be difficult but he didn’t make himself this way. He says Michael ruined him and she tells him that Michael broke all of them. She says she has fear of abandonment, he has anger and Elijah is compelled to help those that can’t be helped. Rebekah tells him they are the definition of cursed because they live forever without hope. Klaus is stunned.

Marcel asks Cammie about Davina and she says she may need to be hospitalized. He says he thinks she needs to go back to the witches. Cammie doesn’t like it but Marcel is firm.

Elijah lies choking and tormented. Klaus kneels and jams his hand inside his brother and yanks out the knife. He says now they’re even.

Marcel tells G that he’ll bring Davina to her once she wakes up and he explains it to her. She thinks she can break the curse since Celeste’s magic drained into the earth when she died. He asks her to fix Kieran too and she says that she can’t because the hex has already taken root. He tries to threaten her and she tells him to try and have a little dignity.

Rebekah tells Klaus that he should go ahead and do to her what he’s going to. He says that she said Michael ruined all of them but wonders if his father ruined him before that. The spell comes down and she tells him what’s done is done and he says it all remains within them as part of their personal story. He says vicious father, bastard son, sister betrayed him.

Klaus says he thinks it’s time for a new story. He asks what she wants and she says home, family, life and someone to love her. Klaus tells her to go far away and never come back. He says they are too damaged to remain close. He says New Orleans will be his and he’ll raise his child in the city she took from him. He says he thinks Elijah will stay with him but she is free. Rebekah looks at him unsure and then walks away. He watches her go and seems sad that she actually went.

At the burned shell of their plantation house, Rebekah comes in with a lantern. She hears a noise and sees Elijah is there too. She smiles at him and he says he thought he would find her there. She says she’s leaving shortly and asks if he’ll go with her. He says he hopes she finds what she’s looking for. Rebekah says she never meant for Michael to hurt him. She says she’s certain that Klaus was going to kill her. She says maybe deep down he’s the brother they once knew and Elijah says buried deep, but still there. She kisses his cheek and tells him to help Klaus find his way.

Klaus comes back to the compound and asks why the vamps are loitering. Marcel says he asked them to be there. Marcel says it’s his town and he’s not sorry. He says he may not be able to beat him, but does want to face him in front of everyone. He says if he’s going to kill him to get on with it. Klaus walks away and up the stairs but then Elijah throws Marcel across the quad. He tells the vamps he trusts they know who he is and says it his family home and they are taking it back. He tells Marcel he will let him live only as a mercy to Rebekah. He tells him he is exiled from the Quarter and if he sees him again, he will finish him. He tells the vamps to run along and they all scurry off. Klaus tells Elijah that it was nicely done. He says Elijah is beginning to sound like him and it’s impressive.

Marcel and Rebekah stand at her mother’s grave and is bound there. She tells him she’s finally free and he says that Klaus and Elijah took his home and people. He says he can’t just run away. She says she’s not asking him to because she knows he loves the city and she’s not the kind of girl that likes to share. She tells Marcel she wishes he had finished building their home even if she never got to live in it. Marcel grabs her and kisses her deeply. She steps back and tells him good-bye. She tells him to try and stay alive.

Hayley sits by the fire when Rebekah shows up. She tells her she came to say good-bye and says she has to leave to survive Klaus. She tells him her brother is a monster and she should never cross him. She says he’s broken but there is hope for him and the baby is his best hope. She tells her to be careful because their family has many enemies. Hayley asks her to come back and visit and Rebekah says if he doesn’t come back to tell her stories about crazy Aunt Becks and that she loves her niece very much. She walks off into the night.

Klaus goes through a box of mementos and find the little carving he gave Rebekah when she was little. He recalls the stormy night when they were young. She drives her convertible out over the bridge and out of the city. She smiles hesitantly and then more widely as the night wind blows her hair.
