Ryan Lochte is engaged to Playboy model Kayla Rae Reid. Even though they’ve only been together for less than a year, Ryan proposed to the 25-year-old blonde beauty in epic fashion. He took her on a helicopter ride overlooking the photo-worthy and picturesque Malibu Canyon.
The future Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Lochte met at a Hollywood nightclub and even though he’s faced quite the public backlash with his 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics scandal, in which he lied to Brazilian authorities about a fake robbery and holdup at a gas station near Copacabana Beach, Kayla stood by his side, proving that she’s there for both the good, the bad, and the downright ugly.
Still, skeptics can’t help but wonder if the timing of Ryan’s engagement was more than just calculated, as the Olympic athlete could very well be desperate to keep his name in the headlines, considering income and endorsements he lost because he lied during his scandal. Is Ryan hoping to score a new reality television show? Or perhaps make his future wife a celebrity star, too? That could very well be the case as he tries to extend what’s left of his 15 minutes of ubiquitous fame.
Ryan told USA Today, “My family says, ‘Don’t you think it’s a little too soon?’ I’m like, ‘Can you put a time on love? Can you?’ When I realized this was ‘the one’ was when she stuck behind me through this. She still loves me and she’s still right there with me.”
Then again, Ryan isn’t known for making the most sound decisions. Of course, the timing of Ryan Lochte’s engagement couldn’t come at a better time for the disgraced Olympic swimmer. He’s trying to repair his reputation by dancing his way into the hearts of Americans again on ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ and an engagement might just show that if his girlfriend is willing to forgive him, then the public needs to give him a second chance as well.
But then again, marrying Kayla Rae Reid – a Playboy model who was virtually unknown until this past summer – won’t help give Ryan Lochte the public sympathy he desperately needs. But then again, the Gold medalist managed to splash on her engagement ring, so clearly all of the boycotts and canceled endorsements aren’t hurting his deep pockets after all.
