“The Young and The Restless” (Y&R) spoilers tease that Summer Newman’s (Hunter King) long absent boyfriend Kyle Abbott (Lachlan Buchanan) is back in town on an episode next week – just in time to catch her cheating with Luca Santori (Miles G Villanueva).
After Lachlan Buchanan was dropped to recurring status on Y&R, he opted to walk away from the CBS soap since his plate is full with primetime TV opportunities. Y&R spoilers indicate that Tuesday April 26 will be Lachlan’s final appearance as Kyle with no word on a recast.
With Summer sharing a sweet kiss with Luca and the Spaniard obviously working her to get in good with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), it won’t be long before the Latin lover crawls into her bed. Of course, she’s not expecting Kyle to show up – he’s been notably absent for a long time.
So after Summer gives in to temptation and allows Luca to bed her, it’s the perfect moment for Kyle to drop into Genoa City to visit and find her naked with the recently divorced Luca. This is motivation for Kyle to leave town angry and not come back for a while.
Kyle’s angry exit after finding Summer cheating with Luca gives Y&R showrunners the opportunity to leave the part fallow and then recast at their leisure if Kyle becomes plot critical at some point in the future. OR and this is a BIG BUT – perhaps Y&R has already recast Kyle.
Michael Roark kicks off his new role as “Travis” on Friday April 29 – just a few days after Kyle catches Summer in bed with Luca. You might recall that Kyle was recast under shady circumstances back in 2013. Blake Hood was ousted as Kyle and replaced with Hartley Sawyer.
But when Hartley Sawyer was cast on Y&R, he was announced as new character “Connor Boyd.” This turned out to be bunk and he was, in fact, a new Kyle. Could Y&R showrunners be doing the same bait and switch again with Kyle Abbott swapping Buchanan for Roark?
“Travis” is supposed to be someone who comes to Genoa City with his eye on a certain someone. Sure Travis could be a new character – but let’s wait to see what unfolds on April 29 in case Y&R has pulled another Kyle misdirect on us.
Meanwhile, Kyle’s supposed exit is great for Luca because that means Summer can be all his and he can use her to get closer to the man he increasingly sees as his surrogate daddy – Victor… It’s not like Kyle was much of a boyfriend anyway since he was always gone.
But then again, always-gone Kyle may be better for Summer than predatory Spanish snake Luca. Plus, Luca is deluding himself if he thinks Victor will ever accept him. We’re wondering if Luca will rush Summer to the altar to make him a de facto Newman so he can’t be ignored…
