Tonight on FOX BONES returns with a whole new episode called, “The Doll in the Derby.” On tonight’s show Cam tries to uncover the details behind Booth’s secretive hospital appointments. Did you watch last week’s show? We did and we recapped it for you HERE!
On last week’s show after Hodgins and Angela were drugged and woke up to a bloody corpse hanging in the canopy of their bed and flower petals around their son Michael’s crib, they were forced to believe that Pelant was back for revenge against Hodgins. Although Hodgins wanted to go after Pelant directly, Booth knows it was best to work within the system and not go against protocol. Meanwhile, as the Jeffersonian team investigated the corpse, they discovered the victim was a Special Forces agent working for the world’s biggest supplier of mercenaries, and Angela and Hodgins decided to start an investigation without the rest of the Jeffersonian team for the sake of their family.
On tonight’s show Brennan and Booth investigate the death of a female roller derby skater whose body was dismembered. In order to get more answers, they enlist Angie to go undercover as a derby skater. Meanwhile, Cam tries to uncover the details behind Booth’s secretive hospital appointments in the all-new “The Doll in the Derby” episode.

A couple of rookie cops are responding to a call in a dank basement area of a slaughterhouse when one slips in a pile of human goo and starts shrieking like a girl. There’s a fleshy skull smiling at the screaming cop.
Booth tells Bones he has to go to the hospital and he’s not too happy about it.
At the met house, Hodgins studies the smeary remains. Cam says one of the rookies rolled around in the remains – gross. Time of death was eight hours ago and Bones thinks it’s a woman. Cam says a corrosive liquid was used and Bones sees markings from a cross-cut saw that’s not been found.
Hodgins needs to find a way to reverse the effects of the chemicals. He wants to pressure wash the mess to save the flesh but Bones is upset that it could fracture the bones. Hodgins goes to work hosing down the human putrefaction and we’re treated to some lovely blood splatter. Good thing I had a vegetarian dinner tonight!
Wendell and Cam are working on the body when Hodgins comes in to wish Wendell happy birthday – turns out he’ll be 29. Hodgins asks if he’s upset because he hasn’t achieved much – he reminds him that Cam was deputy chief coroner by that age. Wendell changes the convo back to cause of death. He finds missing teeth, rib damage and lots more. He says it looks like domestic abuse.
Cam pops out a bridge from the mouth and tells Wendell to use the serial number to get a name for their victim. Booth tells Sweets the forensic crew found no fingerprints at the slaughterhouse. Sweets said the crime isn’t weird enough – there’s no sense of planning or ritual – he says it was sloppy with no forethought.
Melinda Perkins is the victim and Booth sends Sweets to go talk to her doctor husband and see how he reacts to news of her death. Booth tells Sweets he has to go but won’t tell him where – hmm…
Angela found a fancy hi-tech sports watch on the victim and pulled data. They find her pulse rate was abnormally high prior to it abruptly ending with her death. Bones takes a call from Booth and mentions his hospital visit which has Angela curious. Angela wants to know what’s up and tells her she heard the word hospital. Bones says she can’t tell her what’s going on – she says it’s not her secret to reveal.
Sweets is with Dr. Perkins – the victim’s husband – who happens to be a trauma surgeon and offers to show him crime scene photos. Turns out they were separated at the time she died. He tells Sweets that his wife wanted the divorce and he says he never hit his wife – he said he was focusing on finding a new wife. He has an alibi – he was working at the hospital till 2 a.m.
The GPS on the victim’s watch shows she was a couple of hundred yards away from the slaughterhouse. Looking in the area, they see a woman bleeding from the head who assures them she’s fine. They follow her into a warehouse and see a roller derby team in full body slamming practice. Booth is excited – Bones (as usual) has no clue…
The team owner – Nick – comes over and introduces himself and Emily Kickinson. They show him a photo of Melinda and they indicate a billboard photo of her – she’s Pummel Ya Anderson. Emily tells them no one on the team would hurt her and that Melinda was a tough girl. They tell Bones and Booth that Ivana Kick Ass didn’t show up to practice.
Turns out Hodgins found particulates in Melinda’s school that match a roller derby wheel. He starts teasing Wendell about his birthday and things he hasn’t accomplished yet. Hodgins asks him if he’s ever dating a crazy girl, grown ironic facial hair or posed naked for a sexy art student. Hodgins is grossed out when he realizes Wendell posed for Angela. He reminds him that he knows they dated but Hodgins is not pleased.
Angela comes to see Cam who may have found toxins in the victim’s blood. She tells Cam about the cryptic “hospital” call between Booth and Bones. They are both worried. Cam found hydrocodone, pot and ecstasy in her bloodstream. Wow!
Booth has Ivana in the office and asks her about her rivalry with Melinda. She says they were friends and it was healthy competition. She tells her Melinda was pretty wild about drugs and guys. She says Melinda got busy with a guy on her ex’s lawn.
Booth likes the husband for the crime, but he has the alibi. Sweets says her behavior is extreme plus she has a police record for shoplifting, public drunkenness and all sorts of shenanigans. So… what’s the plan? Send in Angela undercover to be a roller derby girl! Hodgins isn’t happy about it, but when she rolls out in her sexy roller derby outfit and says she’s Smackee Kennedy, her hubby gets pretty excited.
At roller girl tryouts, Angela is among a bunch of badass skater girls who want Melinda’s spot. Angela is kicking butt in the time trials when someone knocks her flat. She gets back into it, pulls a whip out and comes out in front before she’s knocked down with a bloody nose. But she’s back up and pissed off – next time, she’s thrown over a railing.
Cam asks Hodgins how Angela did and he doesn’t know yet, but is worried. They look at a mock-up of the blood splatter and theorize that she was stabbed brutally while alive.
In the locker room, Angela is a mess of pain and chats with Ivana who says he stands a chance of getting on the time. Angela puts on her glasses and checks for blood, but all the wheels have blood on them! Emily Kickinson sees her in the orange glasses and Angela makes up a plausible explanation. Em tells her not to leave her valuables lying around – they have a petty theft problem – along with some other incidences. Angela (aka Smackee) offers to buy her a drink to celebrate her getting on the team and they head out.
Cam tells Bones that Angela called in, made the team and found blood on all the skates, but not tissue. Cam asks Bones if something is wrong with Booth. She says she knows about the hospital and Bones insists he’s fine. She says she’s not allowed to say more. Cam looks very concerned.
Wendell tells Bones that he’s got an idea of what kind of saw was used. It was a fine tooth saw – a woodsaw of high quality. Bones says that Nick (the team manager) built the wood track himself. They also notice that one of the cuts was made before death – ouch!
At the bar, Emily and Angela are drinking and Em is telling her skate stories. Booth comes in and Angela pretends they’re a couple. Ang says Booth is the reason she knew there was an opening on the team. Angela gives Booth a big kiss until Em passes out. Angela says Nick was skimming from the team when it was supposed to be a fair share with the skaters. Turns out Melinda confronted him about it. Angela wants Booth to arrest him but he says he needs more proof. Nick comes up and Angela asks Booth for another kiss – he tells her to sober up.
Nick says he had no reason to kill Melinda – that she was a big draw. He tells Booth he gives 20% of the gate to the girls. He says money went missing from the cash box, but he thought it was Melinda. They ask why he didn’t confront her and he says it was complicated. Turns out he was one of the guys getting it on with Melinda. He says he didn’t want to jeopardize getting sexy with her by accusing her of stealing. He says Melinda tried to get him to go fool around on the lawn of her ex hubby’s and he said no. But then he says the good doctor showed up at a bar they were at a few nights ago. He says Melinda was deliberately provoking her ex and even threw a drink in his face.
Cam heads in to the hospital to pry and spy. The doctor he’s been seeing refuses to divulge any information about why he’s there. She’s a specialist in NF – neural fibro genetics. It affects children and Cam is worried that it’s Booth and Bones daughter that’s got NF and is growing tumors. Now Cam is really worried.
Hodgins comes to see Wendell who is frustrated with the lack of evidence that could lead to an arrest. Wendell says he and his brother had a bet that when he hit 29 he would still be a loser. Wendell says the bet is $200 but he won’t ask his brother for it because he’s just a security guard. Hodgins leaves.
Bones comes in and Wendell shows her indications that Melinda got CPR. Then he shows her femoral artery cuts. Someone cut her leg arteries and then pumped her chest to get all the blood out of her. That indicates someone with anatomic knowledge, which leads back to the doctor ex-husband. Turns out his alibi was shaky from 9 pm to 1 am. He insists that he loved her and would never hurt her.
Booth throws out the sex on the lawn stuff and how it seemed like Melinda wasn’t interested. He says her murder was the work of someone with doctor-type knowledge. Her ex insists that he didn’t do it, says “you don’t understand” and lawyers up.
Hodgins tells Wendell he needs to collect the $200 from his brother. He shows Wendell something he found on the victim’s shirt. It was eyeball fluid! She was stabbed in the eye and then chopped into bits. Yick. Wendell admits his brother can afford it but says his bro may not even remember the bet. Hodgins swabbed the eye socket in the skull and based on the metals, determines she was stabbed in the eye with a key!
Booth and Bones are back at the derby track and discuss that women are taught to stab with keys in self-defense classes. Booth asks all the skaters and manager to hand over their keys. One of Ivana’s keys is the right size, but the luminal says no blood. They all go out to the team bus and Bones finds blood in the ignition of the bus.
Ivana did it and since she was in school training to be a physical therapist, she knew where to cut to drain her and dismember her. Ivana tries to defend herself saying Melinda was stealing, but everyone walks away in disgust while Booth arrests Ivana!
Wendell, Angela and Hodgins are sharing a birthday drink at the bar when Wendell hands over the nude painting Angela did to Hodgins. He unrolls it and sees that Wendell had painted on boxer shorts. Hodgins is greatly relieved.
At the amusement park, Bones walks Cam in to show her the carnival Booth put together for the CF kids. Turns out that Christine isn’t sick, but it was just something that he wanted to do and he wanted to keep it private. She quotes Cam some First Corinthians about charity being more worthwhile if it’s done in secret.
Bones says she’s only showing Cam because she knows otherwise she wouldn’t let it go. Cam and Bones agree that Booth is a very, very good man.
