Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that one NBC soap star made a quiet onscreen exit, which flew mostly under the radar. Melissa Reeves departed the role of Jennifer Horton Deveraux on October 13, though she hasn’t been filming in months.
Reeves still had some scenes left from before the March shutdown, but now those have run out – and that means a new Jennifer is about to hit Salem.
Cady McClain is set to make her DOOL debut as Jennifer on October 30. In an interview with SOD, McClain opened up how excited she is to be taking on this role. It turns out McClain really did her research in hopes of truly understanding the character.
McClain watched all the old footage she could find and went digging into Jennifer’s history as well as the histories of other Days roles. She searched through “all the Wiki everything” to make sure she had a good grip on all the families.
From there, McClain had to decide how she would approach her own portrayal of Jennifer. The new Days of Our Lives star knew it’d be a bad idea to imitate Reeves’ version.
McClain suggested that since Reeves brought so much of herself to the role for so long, it’d be “weird and inauthentic” to try to recreate it.
Instead, McClain opted to put her own spin on Jenn and hope for the best. Although McClain would love a warm welcome, she’s prepared just in case she gets the opposite! “I have been hated before so it wouldn’t be the first time,” McClain said with a chuckle.
The soap vet gets the trepidation some might feel over a Jennifer recast, but she had a great take on the whole situation.
Reeves decided not to return when the show resumed production in September, so McClain pointed out that there are “extenuating circumstances.” She’s hoping that it’ll be a comfort to know Jennifer’s still around in some form, even if she doesn’t have the face everyone is used to.
On McClain’s first day of filming, she shared scenes with Matthew Ashford (Jack Deveraux), Drake Hogestyn (John Black) and Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans). That gives you an idea of what to expect in some of the new Jennifer’s early interactions.
