The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Should Gina Tognoni Return To Y&R – New Character Role for Missed Star?

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that there’s one character who’s consistently missed in Genoa City. No matter who you prefer in the role of Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), most of us can agree that Gina Tognoni is a class act and a talented performer.

Some fans are still longing for Tognoni’s version of Phyllis while others like what Stafford brings to the table. Of course, there are certainly some fans who see the value in both. Regardless, Y&R made their choice and it’s a firm one. Stafford isn’t going anywhere, so could there be another way for Tognoni to rejoin the show? Would you accept Tognoni in a brand-new role?

It’d be interesting to see Tognoni tackle a new character in Genoa City. The Young and the Restless might want to let a little more time pass, but it’s at least an option to consider. Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) could use a love interest he has true chemistry with. Tognoni and Thompson were always able to sizzle onscreen together.

Some Y&R viewers were never fond of “Philly” because of the whole affair storyline. Phyllis and Billy betrayed Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), so some fans could never get past all the cheating. If Billy were paired up with Tognoni playing a new character, then that problem’s solved! The Young and the Restless could deliver the chemistry without the baggage.

Naturally, there’s no way to predict how fans would respond to Tognoni in a new role. Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) doesn’t have quite the same pizazz as Hilary Hamilton (Mishael Morgan), so she arguably hasn’t been as popular with fans.

Conversely, Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) managed to click with many viewers. She was far different from Cassie Newman (Camryn Grimes) when she came on the scene, so the stark contrast probably helped.

Naturally, the situation would be a bit different with Tognoni, who couldn’t return as a doppelganger or long-lost twin. Y&R’s best bet would just be to make a funny comment or two about Tognoni’s new character seeming familiar. Having Billy say, “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” would do just fine. Other soaps have used a similar strategy in the past, so it wouldn’t be a big thing to get past.

This is just some fun speculation for now, but it’s an intriguing idea to mull over. Do you think Gina Tognoni should return in a new role? Could you accept Tognoni as a different character than Phyllis?
