Dr. Bishop has a stressful job. He was a doctor himself. He also oversees the entirety of the emergency department and so he deals with stressful cases. He deals with it everyday. He usually didn’t let it affect him and things were different this time. This time it involved Sonja Jessup. Sonja Jessup was dealing with an underlying condition and she had also overdosed. Her condition was serious. Bash tried to handle it seriously and at one time he had to put a chest tube in. He thought Bishop could guide him in because Bishop was looking at the scans, but Bishop didn’t see the scans clearly enough and because of him Bash made a mistake. Bash penetrated Sonja’s spleen with the tube.

The tube ruined the spleen. Sonja is going to have to have it removed and the doctors still don’t know what the underlying condition was. They just knew she was still being affected by it. They tried to treat her and Bash was lucky to stay on her case. He couldn’t work on it alone because he had made a mistake. Mags therefore had to join him and together they hoped to find out what’s really wrong her. Bash also wants to know what’s wrong with Bishop. Bishop normally wouldn’t have misread a scan. He was good at his job. He could read a basic scan if he had been okay and so Bash knew he wasn’t okay. Bash noticed that Bishop was dealing post-concussive nausea. The nausea was fine if it was just nausea and Bash didn’t think it was. Bash later approached Claire.

Claire was the best person to talk about Bishop with. She was close to Bishop and she would have noticed if Bishop was ill, but it turns out she noticed and she even tried to downplay it with herself because she had been too afraid to push Bishop. Bishop hasn’t been able to see well in a while. He missed a nurse approaching him with a chart and he hadn’t been able to read the scans with Sonja Jessup. Claire finally admitted to herself. She later confronted Bishop and again he told he that he was on top of things. He tried to tell her it wasn’t serious when it wasn’t. Claire let him fob her again because she hadn’t wanted to push him and this time his condition made it too hard to ignore. Bishop suffered a fit while on his way out of the hospital.

Bash had been with him. He noticed that Bishop wasn’t okay and so he called for help. Bash was the one who saved Bishop’s life all those months ago. He now has to save the man’s life again because Bishop hasn’t wanted to talk about his illness and that scared Bash. Bash didn’t know what was wrong. He just knew his mentor had collapsed in front of him. He also knew it could have had something to do with what he did all those months ago. He drilled into Bishop’s head to save his life and it might have caused an aneurysm to form. It would also explain why he suffered from a heart attack now. Bash did CPR on Bishop. He worked on him until they were able to shock the man’s heart into working again. And Bishop had been down for a minute.

There was no telling what else could be wrong with him because of that. He could never regain consciousness because he was down too long and so Bash blames himself. He had drilled into the man’s head without imaging. Mags had called him reckless and he was. Bash now worries he just suspended Bishop’s life and not saved it. Bishop was rushed into surgery. He was out of Bash’s hands and so Bash tried to focus on the patient he could save. He focused on Sonja. Sonja’s underlying condition was a mystery to everyone. He and Mags did their best to figure it out and it wasn’t until Bash mentioned it could be rare that Mags thought of the condition Sonja must have had. The condition would even explain the back pain that drove her into abusing pills.

It was a cellular thing. It causes pain in her back and her legs because that’s where the grouping is. Sonja will need to have surgery to correct it. She later crashed before she could be moved to surgery and so Bash was forced to remove her spleen right then and there. He had Mags assist him. Together the two of them were able to remove the spleen and keep Sonja from bleeding out. She was going to be okay now because of them. They were the ones who found out about her underlying condition and they were the ones who ultimately saved her life. They were both so happy afterwards that it led to a moment. A moment in which they could have kissed and they decided to let it pass.

Bash later went to go check on Bishop. It was seeing Bishop in his hospital room that reminded Bash of finding his father injured and bleeding out and being told to go. His father wanted him to live. He knew Bash was at risk the longer he stayed at the hospital helping him and so his father told him to go. Bash did, but he has lived with the guilt of that decision and he remembers it when he was with Bishop. Bishop even came to once he heard Bash crying. He woke up and Bash was there crying by his bed. Elsewhere in the hospital, Theo was letting a cystic fibrosis patient go and June was off getting radical treatment for a guy who was by himself at the hospital facing cancer that had touched every part of his organs. June’s case reminded her of her father’s and so she made sure he got help.

Theo’s case reminded him that sometimes there’s nothing he can do to save a patient and so he went rushing home to see his family. It didn’t matter that he was fighting with his wife. He was prepared to apologize and he did. Only it didn’t matter to his wife. She was glad to have him home and at the same time she didn’t want to make choices for him. They were going to have to figure out what comes next. Bash meanwhile was glad that Sonja was doing better and she had even thanked him for saving her life because she can live without a spleen, but she had needed that one more chance at life. Bash also later talked to his sister about the promise he made to their father to always keep her safe. And it was good for her to hear it because she does have questions.

Bash and Amira decided to work on their relationship and no sooner did they decide this that someone from their past came back into their lives.

THE END!
