In tonight’s New Amsterdam episode, Dr. Helen Sharpe has gotten back her gift of speech. She can now talk in full sentences and she can even assist in her mother’s care. Her mother was seeking treatment at the hospital. Sharpe was with her. But Max was still proud of her. He called her all the time. He heard her new voicemail. He was proud of her progress and so things were good. Max’s ploy to get Veronica fired was also coming together. She tried to fire him after incorporating his freelancing company. She thought if she did that she could fire him and so Max had to point out that he couldn’t be fired. It was in his employment contract.

Max also got help in ousting Veronica. He talked to Sergeant Todd. The two men have never gotten on or agreed about anything and yet they agreed about ousting Veronica. She was a terrible leader. All she cared about was profit. She didn’t care about patients or getting the job done right. She was just in it for the money. Sergeant Todd agreed to help Max to take her down. He took some of Max’s files. He promised to show it to the DOD. Max had to just hope that things would fall into place. While he waited for word from his allies, he continued to serve the patients at the hospital. He and Bloom got two kids from the same school.

One was named Darby while the other was named Kaden. They both attended the same elementary school and they were supposed to each get shots from the school nurse. Only, something went wrong. The nurse managed to mix up their medications. Max went to school to talk to the nurse. He found out that there hadn’t been an official nurse in three years and that the nurse had been fired due to budget cuts. It was actually the school secretary that was doling out the drugs. She has no medical training and the school superintendent was the one who authorized her to act as a school nurse.

Max talked to the superintendent about it. He found out the guy was doing the best he could. His budget kept being caught by those in government and he was doing his best to keep as many teachers as he possibly could. But something had to give. The nurse was cut because that was the only way to make his new budget work. The system was broken. It was broken on a hospital level. It was even broken at the school level. There was just nothing the superintendent could do about it. The only thing Max could do was treat both boys. He had help from Bloom. Bloom spoke to Darby and she found out that the other boy Kaden was his bully.

Bloom had asked how Kaden bullied him. Darby said it was like how she talked to one of the nurses. Darby also said that Kaden would probably find a way to blame him for what happened and so he was feeling a little depressed when he began coughing up blood. The doctors rushed in to treat him. They stopped the internal bleeding. They also called a PTA meeting in which the doctors agreed to help the parents become accredited nurse assistants. This way they could take turns acting as a nurse and making sure the kids have the proper medication. It would take much time for the parents to learn. It would just be one hour a week.

Sharpe meanwhile had heard back about her mother’s care. It was a passing sickness. Nothing serious and so she was reassured, but her mother came to regret a lot of the choices she’s made in raising her daughter and she thought about that while she was sleeping at the hospital. She thought about telling her daughter how much she loves her. Or how she wanted to be a dancer when she was younger because it was part of her tradition. The woman has put aside so much and she hasn’t been there for her daughter as much as she should have been. She still had the opportunity to say all of that to her daughter once she woke up only she hadn’t.

She instead told her daughter that she knows how much she loves her. There was no need to prove it like how Sharpe was running around to make sure her mom has the best care. Back in New York, Max heard from Sergeant Todd. Someone called them off. There wasn’t going to be a federal fraud case in the hospital or Veronica. Veronica was now safe. Max had no way to oust her and to do so now would be even more impossible.

Bloom meanwhile apologized to the people she felt she had been bullying. She never met to do so and she was going to learn from her behavior.

And Iggy was going to go to HR about Trevor. About how he hired Trevor for the wrong reasons when Trevor called Iggy a bad person and decided to quit his job at the hospital.

THE END!
