In tonight’s Welcome To Plathville episode, Ethan and Olivia were trying to work on their marriage. Neither of them were ready to call it just yet. It’s simply not how they were raised to view marriage and so their upbringing has reminded them to keep fighting for each other. Never stop loving each other.
Nothing can go wrong as long as they love and respect each other. Or at least that’s what they taught. They weren’t taught about what to do even as beliefs began to shift. Or if you don’t agree on religion or politics anymore. Ethan and Olivia got married young. They thought their beliefs at the time would be forever. And so they keep running into rough patches because he still wants her as she was and she likes the person she is now.
They went ice fishing hoping it would bring them closer together. Only Olivia was the one that was catching all the fish. There was nothing happening near Ethan’s hole and this was his idea.
He wanted to share a moment of joy with her only they didn’t get that moment because he got jealous of all the fish she was catching. Their date night was a dud. One that they didn’t know how to recover from. And Ethan couldn’t call his siblings for help because he iced all of them out of his life.
His mother Kim also went on a date recently. It more or less confirmed that the man she’s dating is her boyfriend and she’s his girlfriend. She just had to break the news to the girls. From the start, the girls didn’t like that their parents were splitting up.
They were hoping that Kim would have a change of heart and go back to Barry but Kim did tell them on tonight’s episode that she was dating. She also didn’t get the feedback that she wanted. The girls, especially Lydia, had taken the news kind of rough.
They were worried about how their dad would react. The girls also told their brothers about what happened and they now feel weird that her boyfriend is working alongside one her of her sons.
They had all liked the guy when he was just Isaac’s boss. Now, they weren’t sure what to think. Should they still like him? Or is that a betrayal against their father? Kim had told everyone that she wanted a divorce and that she was going to be dating other people. And it seems they didn’t believe her until they heard she had a boyfriend.
Ethan wasn’t sure how to take the news. He heard it from Micah who heard it from Moriah. The only good thing about that is that the brothers are back in communication. The communication had to wait until Olivia went to St. Lucia.
She wanted to leave freezing Minnesota. Her being out of the house was all Ethan needed to finally return Micah’s phone call. Ethan has a problem you see. He has lots of siblings and none of them wanted to be around his wife. They’ve all thought she was too much. And Micah would only hang out with Ethan when Olivia wasn’t there.
His siblings were being unfair to Ethan. Ethan was married. He wanted to stay married to Olivia. He won’t tolerate disrespect to Olivia and that was a huge reason why he had a falling out with his parents.
Now, it’s his siblings giving him trouble. They called him up and none wanted to apologize for their crappy behavior. This includes Moriah. Moriah still owes Ethan a month’s rent. She hasn’t paid it and then she blocks him. She only unblocked him to tell him she loves him and forgives him. And he asked for what.
Ethan hasn’t done anything bad to Moriah. He raised his voice after she tried to disappear on him without paying and so he doesn’t owe her apology or needs to be forgiven. Moriah blocked him again after he said that. And later Olivia got angry with him for saying he was meeting up with Micah, but she wasn’t invited to join them.
