Meet Jennifer Messer, a clerk/bookkeeper from Abingdon, Virgina. Jennifer claims her weight gain is a result from the ’emotional eating’ that is associated with a ‘busy life’. Jennifer explains, “I lost sight of me and focused on my other titles instead – wife, mom, volunteer, etc.”
According to her official bio, “Jennifer was the youngest of three growing up in Abingdon, Virginia and played volleyball in high school. She got her degree in accounting from Virginia Highlands Community College. The weight gain began after high school, but she has struggled the most with her weight in the past five years. Now the married mother of two daughters, ages 10 and 13, 42-year-old Jennifer weighs 266 pounds and has high blood pressure.”
Jennifer’s ‘aha’ moment came when she had to attend the funeral of an acquaintance who died at 44, which spurred her on to live a healthier life. The way she explains it, she wants to, “live a more fulfilling life where my weight will no longer hold me back from doing anything that I want to do.”
She also wants to be a strong role model for her daughter, which is sure to win her points with fans and the judges. At 266 pounds, Jennifer weighs significantly less than most of the other contestants, which also might make it easier on her – although the changes will be more difficult to implement and physically evaluate.
