Tonight’s episode of Kate Plus 8 kicks off with Kate Gosselin discussing her Mother’s Days over the years. This year Cara, Mady, and the other kids got up early and made breakfast for Kate to surprise her. Ironically the sextuplets birthday happened to fall on Mother’s Day. So, they decided to choose a different day to celebrate Mother’s Day. The kids picked the day and told her to stay out of the kitchen – so she hid in her bedroom while they prepared her breakfast.

Mady seems to think that she is in charge of the surprise breakfast – she sends her brothers out to the chicken coop to get eggs, and orders Aaden to make their mother a card because he is the artistic one in the family.

Kate reminisces that since she was a young girl all she wanted to do was be a mom, she used to dream that there was a surplus of babies in the world and her parents let her adopt one. She even went to nursing school so that she could understand better how to take care of her children. Kate was so excited about being a mom that she even recorded herself taking pregnancy tests at home when she was pregnant with the twins Mady and Cara. She laughs that the twins are the reason she was crazy enough to get pregnant with the other 6, because they were such good babies, she had no idea what she was getting herself in to.

Meanwhile in the kitchen Mady and Cara are still getting ready for the big Mother’s Day breakfast. Mady had come and asked her where a few ingredients were in the kitchen – but refused to tell her what she was making. Kate was super nervous while she was waiting in her room because she was afraid the kids would get out of control on their own and she could hear them shouting at each other.

While Mady and Cara are overseeing Kate’ surprise breakfast in the kitchen – Kate explains that Mady and Cara used to take cooking classes when they were young, so she isn’t nervous about them cooking. Ironically Mady laughs in the kitchen that sometimes she forgets and leaves the stove on and it is a miracle that she doesn’t burn the kitchen down. Kate even lets the little girls use knives in the kitchen and chops things for her while she is cooking dinner.

Another struggle of being a mother of eight is having a house full of picky eaters. Kate scoffs that she is not a short order cook and she doesn’t take requests. Sometimes the kids really try to challenge her and tell her they want just mayonnaise on their sandwiches or salads with no tomatoes. Kate has her kids trained to eat the protein in their food first so if they get full before their food is over they at least got some protein in them. If the kids bring their lunchbags home and they still have vegetables in them – then the next day they aren’t allowed to have dessert.

According to Kate Gosselin, sibling rivalry is the worst thing she has to deal with while raising her kids. Her house seems to have increased sibling rivalry because the kids are all the same ago. She tries to pick her battles when it comes to refereeing, if it is just bickering then she doesn’t get involved. But, if the kids are being outright mean to each other then she always steps in to break them up.
In the kitchen the kids are finishing up with their Mother’s Day cards – Mady shouts at the boys that they shouldn’t all be sitting down because there is still a lot to do. She orders Aaden to go get a table cloth, and instructs the other boys to help him set the table. The boys being trying to figure out which side of the plates the forks, spoons, and knives go on.

Kate is anxious about the three boys becoming teenagers, she has always thought of herself as a “girly mom.” Kate is obviously a girl, so it is easier for her to raise girls. Over the years she has noticed that the boys’ communication skills are not up to par with the girls – but what she loves about them is there is no drama and they just go with the flow. The girls are constantly arguing with her over every little thing, and they scream when they don’t get their way. Kate laughs that when you are raising girls, “the world is ending every other second and it is exhausting.”

It is finally time for Kate’s big Mother’s Day breakfast, Mady goes to her bedroom and tells her that breakfast is ready. Kate comes out of her room and sits down on the coach while the kids serve her breakfast. Each kid wishes her a Happy Mother’s Day and gives her a home-made card. Kate was shocked by how fluffy and perfect the pancakes were, Kate gushes about how beautiful the food is – the kids far exceeded her expectations, and they were on their best behavior. The kids even cleaned up the kitchen when they were done cooking Kate her five star breakfast. Kate laughs that she doesn’t even recognize her own children.

THE END!
