At the first board meeting of the school year, Carla announces that she expects the PTO to raise and donate $100,000 to the elementary school and will need everyone to go over and beyond her high standards to make that happen. The Pink Pajama Party kicks off the first fundraising event of the season but when Robin hands out an unapproved party favor, it leads to a near breakdown and breakup of the PTO.”

RECAP:

That Parent Teacher Organizations are just not was they used to be. Nowadays, they call themselves the PTO (as if that was a fancier title) and, though normally this wouldn’t be the case, the ladies that sit on the board actually tend to take their “duties” far too seriously. On tonight’s season premiere of “Mothers Funders,” we met the sometimes overbearing and slightly out of control PTO of Locust Grove.

Unbeknownst to many of us, Locust Grove is a small town in Georgia. Unfortunately, that means they don’t get the same kind of funding that, say, a city like Atlanta would receive. Thus they’ve had to find alternative ways to raising money.

However, President of the PTO, Carla Stephens, can be considered overzealous in her mission to raise money for the local elementary school.

As we come to learn more about her, there’s generally one thing that keeps sticking out. And that is that she uses her title as president to demand a lot. Think about it this way: she’s less a president and more of a dictator. Though Robin, the Volunteer Coordinator, swears she wasn’t always like that.

She and Carla were oddly enough once friends. And then both women joined the PTO. So it’s safe to say that’s when their friendship began to deteriorate.

Carla has spent the last three years out of seven as president and she’s kind of made the job her vocation. Yet what Carla fails to understand is that not every mom wants to give up their normal life just to host another fundraiser. Hence, Carla runs things – but she also drives people away.

As it turns out, she’s not exactly forgiving of even the smallest transgressions. So, no surprises here, she often butts heads with other PTO members. And there’s no one she antagonizes more than Robin. Robin is currently on “probation” over something stupid and, often, Carla throws that into Robin’s face.
Robin doesn’t seem to care, though. In fact, Robin has sort of let most of her “fundraising” slide since her probation. So why is she still volunteering, you may ask? She says she’s only on the PTO as a way to show her kids how to get along with everyone, but when Carla tries to find her – most likely because she’s in need of an extra pair of hands – Robin always finds a way of escaping.

And so those two are each other’s polar opposites!

Meanwhile, everyone else lies in between. Shayzon is the Vice President and she’s a very good friend of Carla’s. Yet, Shayzon isn’t as caught up in the fundraising as Carla. For instance, she knows when to walk away.

Recently, Carla has come up with a goal to raise ten grand for the school. So she called all the ladies together and assigned them a task. A task by the way that came across as time consuming. Especially for the women who still have children young enough to need them.

Eventually, as they were creating decorations for their upcoming event, one by one the mothers had to leave to go see their kids. New members LaShon, Amber C, and Amber B were the first to leave, but after a while even Shayzon had to jump ship and simply let Carla the perfectionist handle the rest of the decorations.

And the reason she’s called the perfectionist is because Carla assigned everyone a task only to re-do most of what they did.

She called it fixing when other people actually refer to it as to interfering. So those that stuck around ended up upsetting Carla with lackluster work and leaving early. And for someone like Robin who made herself scarce, she still found themselves getting into trouble with Carla.

Robin found sponsors and she also had time to create a nice gift for everyone – badges that had pink ribbons and a heartfelt message on it. But Carla called the badges tacky. Apparently, Robin did not have her approval to make them so in her mind Robin went rogue. Later, Carla called Robin out on what she considered a tactless idea.

At first, Robin let Carla have her say. It was right before their event and she didn’t want to cause an issue.

However, after the event was over and Carla had received accolades for her work “for the children,” Robin had had enough. So he met up with Carla who also happened to be her next door neighbor. And she told the other woman how overbearing she’s become.

Carla, like usual, refused to admit she was in the wrong so for those of us sitting at home – gear up! This fight between Carla and Robin is just beginning.
