The Young and the Restless Spoilers Update: Wednesday, August 19 – Chelsea Gives In – Victoria Plays with Fire – Traci’s New Clue

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Wednesday, August 19, tease that we’ll see some bold moves and changed minds. At the penthouse, Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) fears he’ll never remember what happened that night in Kansas.

Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) thinks Adam’s brain is protecting him; it’s a coping mechanism that allowed Adam to go on living a normal life.

Victor gets a call and seems surprised by the news on the other end. Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) also calls Victor and notes that Victoria’s preparing for a press conference. Victor wants Nikki to find Victoria and make sure she doesn’t divulge what she knows about Adam.

At Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) place, she urges Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) to consider the possibility that it’d be healing for Adam to remember. On Wednesday’s Young and the Restless episode, Chelsea thinks she knows Adam better and argues that he must leave the past in the past.

Sharon wonders what’ll happen if all Adam’s memories come rushing back to him one day. Chelsea insists Adam’s on the edge and can’t handle any more pressure. Suddenly, Chelsea takes a call from Adam and learns Victoria’s about to hold a press conference. Adam worries Victoria might publicly accuse him of killing AJ.

At the Abbott mansion, Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) is desperate to find those old movies and hopes Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) would remember if they could give her a little piece of her past back. Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) doesn’t think they’re going to have much luck.

Traci notes that maybe Summer Newman (Hunter King) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) could come back over to talk to Dina…or maybe Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson).

Jack wonders why Traci’s saying it like that and insists Theo’s welcome in their house. Traci doesn’t think Theo feels that way. Jack argues that he’s not Victor Newman! He doesn’t cut family out when they don’t fit the job title.

Talk turns to Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) reclaiming her rightful place at Jabot. Jack hints that Victoria’s about to make a move that solidifies her spot at the top. Traci shifts back to Dina and the quest to find the home movies. Jack doesn’t want to see Traci disappointed if none of this works out the way she wanted.

At Chancellor Communications, Victoria stops by to see Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson). Billy assumes this is about the vague story Victoria told him. Since they last spoke, the story has evolved. Later, Billy’s heard Victoria’s plan and notes that it’s “one hell of a risk.” Victoria doesn’t think it’s really a risk if you know you’ll win.

After Victoria leaves, Billy discusses Victoria’s idea with Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) since Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) is in a meeting. Accepting the offer would put Chance Comm on everyone’s radar, but it’d mean being part of a Newman on Newman war.

Amanda wonders if they can get back to Victoria in a day or two, but Billy insists Victoria’s following through within the next hour.

In Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) suite, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) wheels in a room service cart. Phyllis is excited about it being “bacon o’clock.” Nick banters with Phyllis about her passion project and talks about it being a giant relief when he got out of Newman Enterprises.

Nick gets updates on the press conference by phone, but he can’t give the reporter a comment since he’s out of the loop. Phyllis pushes Nick to put his phone on silent and stay with her all day, but he can’t rest until he knows what’s going on.

At Newman Enterprises, Nikki confronts Victoria and warns about whatever she’s got planned. There could be legal implications for Victor. Victoria wants Nikki to have faith that she knows what she’s doing, but Nikki insists Victoria needs to cancel or postpone. “You cannot go out there and blow everything up!” Nikki declares.

Nikki argues that this requires a family discussion, but Victoria has made her own decision about what’s best for the company – and she’s not changing her mind. Back with Billy, he talks to Amanda about this opportunity.

If they don’t do this, someone else will. Billy’s strongly in favor and Lily trusts his instincts, but he’s not willing to against his lawyer’s advice. It’s up to Amanda whether they take the risk.

At the Grand Phoenix, Nikki talks to Nick about Victoria being fed up. Victoria has all the leverage right now, so Nick doesn’t think it makes sense for her to just give it all away. The press conference is about to start, to Nick and Nikki get ready to see what’s up.

Back at Sharon’s place, she pulls up the livestream. Adam does the same at the penthouse with Victor. Meanwhile, Phyllis watches and admits she wouldn’t miss his for the world.

At the press conference, Victoria talks about healing from her injuries and returning to this leadership role. She sees growth for the company and is going to use what she’s learned from Victor.

Victoria contends that leadership is about accountability and acknowledging the mistakes of the past. Adam’s watching and fears, “She’s gonna do it…” Victoria mentions that she has Jack and Billy there with her, so she explains their roles at their respective companies.

As Victoria continues, she reveals that she’s decided to streamline Newman Enterprises and get back to the core of what they do. That means selling off their cosmetic division to Jabot and their media division to Chancellor Communications.

Similar divestments are in the works and the details will be made public once they’re finalized.

“You go girl,” Phyllis says in approval. She thinks Victoria’s teaching Victor not to mess with her. Across town, Chelsea’s relieved that Victoria’s announcement wasn’t about Adam. As for Nick and Nikki, they get why Victoria was keeping things so hush-hush since Victor’s going to lose his mind over this.

At the penthouse, Adam suggests Victoria was trying to prove a point and adds that she’s calling the shots now. “There’s not a damn thing either one of us can do about it,” Adam says glumly. “We’ll see about that, son,” Victor replies with a chuckle.

At the cottage, Chelsea hopes the Newmans and Sharon will back off. Sharon argues that she’ll take Adam’s lead on this one. After Chelsea notices Sharon’s in pain, she mentions her incision being tender.

Chelsea’s confused, so Sharon explains about her cancer. Chelsea’s so sorry and is stunned that Sharon’s even considering counseling Adam under the circumstances.

Sharon argues that even if she doesn’t counsel Adam, then someone should. If Adam doesn’t get help, then this could haunt him forever. In Victoria’s office, Victor shows up and calls her out for latest move.

Victoria defends the business decision, but Victor fires back that this is about “payback time.” “You’re playing with fire, my dear,” Victor insists and reminds Victoria that he’s still chairman.

Back with Traci, she brings Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) up to speed on the home movie hunt. Abby reflects on living with Dina in Paris and there being boxes of John Abbott’s (Jerry Douglas) things. There’s also a man taking care of Dina’s stuff, so Traci calls him up and arranges to get the boxes.

Nick reconvenes with Phyllis, who feels like Victoria must have some secret weapon to make this happen. Nick thinks his sister has finally figured out that you can’t earn their father’s respect – you have to demand it.

At Newman Enterprises again, Victor admits to Nikki that he’s furious. Nikki’s just glad Victoria didn’t feed Adam to the wolves. As for Adam, Victor notes that his son doesn’t remember what happened with AJ and he’d like to keep it that way.

Chelsea returns home to Adam, who admits he watched the press conference with Victor. Adam’s realizing that Victor really is protective of him. It’s making Adam reevaluate every interaction they’ve ever had. Adam’s been thinking about his mom as well, but he knows Chelsea doesn’t want him dwelling on this.

In Wednesday’s Y&R episode, Chelsea contends that she’s changed her mind about Adam’s pursuit of the truth. If Adam can be brave enough to face what happened, then Chelsea can be brave enough, too.
