In tonight’s Animal Kingdom episode, back in the past, a young Janine was putting down roots. She wanted a place by the ocean because she thought the water calmed her son Andrew and she had also wanted to take up surfing. She was still pulling jobs. She had a crew by then. They were used to a certain way of life and so Smurf thought everything was handled but Andrew has always had issues. Andrew or Pope as he likes to go by is now a man.

He resents the choices that his mother made. He resents he didn’t have a father or father figure because most of the men that Smurf brought into the picture were all garbage. They were all horrible. They betrayed her one way or another and so Pope never has consistency. Pope also blames himself for his mother’s death.

Pope thinks that’s why she’s haunting him. He sees his mother’s face everywhere he goes and he’s angry. He’s angry about how he was raised. He was angry about how his mother died. She basically tried to kill them both because she didn’t think he would survive without her and so the one thing Pope didn’t want to do was prove her right. He wanted to be sane.

He wanted to be functional like everyone and it was hard because there’s a part of him that’s broken. Pope hit the road. He wanted to find someplace to find peace and he came across a commune. It wasn’t long before Pope found himself welcomed by the commune. They promised a life without pasts and that’s what he needed because he was running from his.

Pope was so busy running that he missed the job with his brothers and nephew. They found someone else to replace him. they approached Renn and she agreed but Craig hadn’t liked it. Craig and Renn were together. He thought his family should have asked him first before involving Renn.

Only Renn can handle herself. She managed to find the guy they were stealing from and become his new friend. She was working such charms on him that he didn’t even notice the demolishment crew that shouldn’t have been there or that they were cutting away into his office to rob him. Renn bribed the DJ. She made sure the music was nice and loud and it worked for a while until the owner cut the music.

He cut it so that he could do a public interview. He then heard the commotion and went next door to investigate it. The guy they were robbing apparently had a deal with the man who owned the building. The building owner agreed not to have work done during “demo days”. So, J was warned to stop working or he was going to face a beatdown and he agreed to step down.

He also tried to convince his family to drop the job but they refuse to hear it. They didn’t want to lose the house. They kept going until they got the safe and unfortunately they put Renn at risk. The guy they just robbed remained highly suspicious of a girl showing up not knowing who he is and so Renn was put in a dicey situation.

The boys escaped. They got the safe and they escaped but they left behind Renn. Renn had to fight her own way out of the situation. She got a little blood on her in doing so. She was otherwise fine and she was making her own back as well. Renn, the boys, and even the mission was all put at risk because there’s still confusion about whose leading them. It used to be Smurf. Then it was Baz.

Then it was Pope. Pope meanwhile has joined the commune and she drinking weird drinks and becoming one with his spirit. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop the memories. Pope kept remembering the past and he even recalled when a new boss came forward to terrorize them. The man’s name was Max Cross. He was mean. He was a bully. He beat the living daylights out of Jake.

Both Pope and his late sister were witnesses to the beatdown. It scared them and their mother told them to never mention it to anyone else because she will handle it. Pope came too after his drink started to make him see things and all he could say was “sorry”. He kept apologizing for the things he did. Pope was apologizing while the rest of the family was making the deal to get their house back. Deran was once again asserting himself as the leader.

He’s wanted to be a leader for a long time and he’s finally getting the opportunity to lead. He recruited Renn. He refused to back down after they had been burned and he was the face of their operation as he negotiated to get the house back in exchange for the safe.

Craig returned to his house where he found Renn. Renn was in a good mood. She apparently had fun on the job and so she wanted to celebrate it by sleeping with him. The two were off having sex while the police came sniffing around. The police tried to talk to J. He still remains mistrustful one of the friendly cop but he did throw down a gauntlet. He asked to see the file on his family.

Back in the past. Smurf went to Max who beat up Jake and she made a deal with him. she agreed to cut him in on the take in return he stays away from her children.

Pope was forced to leave the commune once a man there began seeing his dark energy and so he ran off with a woman he just met and both of them were still high off of whatever they drank.

THE END!
