Chicago PD begins tonight with Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) cleaning her wounds, in her rehab room. Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Makayla Ward (Ramona Edith Williams) come to visit as Adam asks Kim to come to the park to watch everyone play baseball, but she admits she is not ready, so Adam goes alone. He meets up with Ava, pretending they are friends. She reveals that there is a meet-up, but she says she is meeting up with her man tonight for all the information as Adam promises she gets $1000 for every kilo they confiscate. He wants the conversation recorded and agrees to meet after 11 pm that night.

Adam and Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) are waiting for Ava when a call for “shots fired” happens in the area where she was in her meeting so they race over there. They call for backup and search the warehouse, but Kevin spots a car fleeing down the alley and calls it in. Adam reports a DOA when he spots Ava dead on the floor, half-naked. He listens to the recording, both realizing she got made.y Upton

Sgt Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) arrives on the scene and is brought up the date on what transpired. Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) says they have nothing. Hailey Upton (Tray Spiridakos) reveals she was raped and shot twice point-blank range. Voight wants a run on all gang bangers and all sex offenders in the area too.

Adam approaches Sgt Trudy Platt (Amy Morton), saying it is about Kim. He is wondering if the spot is available in narcotics, which is a desk job; she’s surprised Kim wants a desk job. Back in the unit, Voight is given all the updates his team has found out, sending Kevin and Adam to speak to Franklin, Ava’s parole officer. They find the name of DeShawn Baker and all three feel he is somehow involved; Adam and Kevin knock on the door and shots are fired through the door, it is called in that plain-clothed officers are on scene, Hailey and Jay arrive and are able to arrest him.

Voight and Kevin sit in the interrogation room with DeShawn, saying he is in trouble for shooting at the police and a kilo of dope, but they are not interested in the dope. He said Ava was a good girl and he never hurt her and wasn’t even in town. He thinks it might be the new guy. Kevin and Voight leave the room, Trudy stopping him, informing him that Burgess is looking at a desk job but before they can really discuss it, Hailey informs them of the SUV with tinted windows and gunshot damage. They pursue and Hailey and Jay find an injured girl, reassuring her she is safe now.

The crime scene is 2 blocks up, the SUV was in the area there. They have nothing to match it to a gang and could be a serial thing. Voight wants them walking the street and he will handle the rest. There is a pounding on Kim’s door and she grabs a gun, approaching the door slowly. She hides the gun and unlocks it to see Voight standing there. She lets him in, as she tells him she is better every day. He denies a coffee, asking her to talk to a rape victim, saying he needs all hands on deck. She doesn’t believe him but he reminds her that before she makes any decisions she needs to give herself a chance to feel like she can do the job again so it is an actual choice.

Kim gets dressed and goes to the hospital. She goes to see Sarah, who asks her to leave. A nurse comes in and asks Burgess how she is doing and she says she is getting better. Sarah learns Kim was a patient last week as she was shot in the line of duty. Sarah begins talking to her as Kim encourages her to remember anything that can help them. Sarah opens up and is able to give a pretty good description. Kim left the room a little shaken, while Adam was waiting there. She is angry that Adam is pushing to a desk job; he reveals it is simply an option. She doesn’t want to fight and reveals that she believes that Sarah is lying and that her ex is abusive and that is probably the culprit. Kim and Adam admit they both didn’t mean to argue.

Burgess goes to see Sarah’s ex-husband who is extremely hostile towards her. When she is done talking, she goes to the precinct and informs the unit that it is the parole officer as both Sarah and Amy had the same parole officer, Franklin. She says he is lying and he is their guy. Kevin says she is clever and asks her to come along. Adam and Kevin ask Kim to go with them, but she leaves to go home. Jay, Kevin, Adam, and Hailey bring the information to Voight; everything makes sense but they don’t quite have a why. There is one more woman, Casey that they haven’t checked on yet, so Voight tells them to check on her and get eyes on Franklin.

Adam and Kevin arrive at Casey’s house, find blood and give chase to a white male who ends up being Casey’s boyfriend. They arrest him and then find Casey dead in the living room. She had been stabbed 20 times. Voight demands to know if anyone has eyes on Franklin yet, but he is at home eating. Hailey wants to know what their move is now.

Hailey and Kim arrive at Nina’s house to see Sarah. Nina excuses herself so they can talk to Sarah, explaining they have a problem and feel she knows what that is. Kim reveals that she is able to remember things about the man who shot him and sometimes her memory is playing tricks on her and it is the fear, but the one thing she does know is that the man is still out there and she can bring him in. Sarah says the man will kill her and her kid. She said this is what he said to her when he got out, she reveals it was Gary Franklin, and he raped her for months and she never said a word because he said he would protect her and help her get her kid back; keep her out of jail. She asks if they want her to testify. Hailey admits that it would be more complicated than that as it would be a “he said, she said” situation. Sarah says then no one would believe her so Kim wants her to wear a wire and together they can get him. She agrees to do it.

Kim, Hailey, Adam, and Kevin are at the house and find that she has run. Voight feels he will get away with it, but Kim says she will get him to talk… she will get him!!

Kim meets Franklin at a busy diner, just sitting at his table because the diner was too busy. She admits she is a friend of Sarah’s and she only wants $20 grand and will disappear for good. Franklin at first denies it, then says he is busy all day but offers to meet her in a park. Kim leaves and agrees to meet. She sits on the bench as Franklin approaches, saying they should go for a walk. She refuses but he says if she wants the money she needs to follow him. Kim informs the team he is armed but chooses to follow him. Adam begs her not to do it.

On their walk, Kim says she saw lots of bruises on Sarah, even though he claims to have never touched her. Adam sees a van and they get the plate number where he plans on taking her away. He grabs Kim and attempts to throw her in the van, she struggles and pulls out her own gun, shooting him twice in the chest. She saves herself. Adam asks if she is okay and she admits she is fine.

Kim goes to see Sarah and reveals that they got him. Sarah cries and hugs Kim.
