In tonight’s American Ninja Warrior episode, there were several new obstacles. There was the Log Runner to act as the balance obstacle. That was up first. There was also the Kite Surfer. Not to mention the new obstacles for the second half of this two partner. Plus, the contestants were allowed a chance to go after the Mega Warped Wall if they finish the course in under a minute and twenty seconds. Speed was the name of the game and the first contestant up tonight tried to finish in a timely manner. Simba Jones was a social media star. It was his first time out on the course, and he was doing really well right up until the Kite Surfer.

The new obstacle was what took him out. Simba fell and he must wait and see if he makes it into the next round. Then came Jody Avila. He was known as the “Big Dog”. He was super tall as well as fit. Many feared that his age might work against him. He was thirty-seven after all and most of the competitors were in their teens, but he showed that he could keep up with the teenagers by becoming the first finisher of the night. The Big Dog still has it. Time will have to tell for the other OGs.

Madelyn Madaras was next. She was fifteen. She was on the skinny side as well as being on the short side. She was the opposite of Jody. She was running tonight in honor of her mom. Her mom was a breast cancer survivor. They both got involved in ninja gyms as a way of staying fit throughout her mom’s chemo. And her mom was there on the sidelines tonight watching Madelyn’s run. Madelyn was a certified genius and so she tried to use that intelligence to tackle every problem on the course. She sailed through a large part of it. It was actually Lasso Launch that was her undoing.

Madelyn was another that must wait and see if she made it far enough fast enough to go to the next round. Or if she’ll have to compete for a second time again. Next up was Gary Weiland. He was known for being the first to run the obstacle course on a prosthetic leg. He lost his leg back in 2016. He was forced to grow and adapt. It became his slogan. He ran tonight with the hope of being a finisher and unfortunately, he did fall only it wasn’t on the balance obstacle. The balance obstacle had been his undoing last time. And he was able to conquer that fear in a big way.

Gary managed a daring save that got everyone up on their feet. He almost fell on the Log Runner. He managed to save himself by maneuvering his body back on top of the obstacle and getting off without anything falling in the water. It was like watching a miracle. Gary went on to fall further along on the course only he tackled his fears and that alone was worth it for him. After Gary, it was Grant McCartney. He was known for his dance moves on the course and he was also an eight time competing ninja.

Ninja opened a lot of doors for Grant. He became involved with the fitness world. He took to doing more extreme sports. He also put on a lot of muscle. He was in the two hundreds tonight when usually he’s about fifty pounds lighter. The extra muscle came in handy when he had to use his upper body strength. It worked against him when he was on the bungee cords as well as when he was trying to come off the fifth obstacle. He ended up falling into the water. And he made jokes about being Texas too long.

Sandy Zimmerman went up next. She was the first mom to ever hit a buzzer. She wanted another buzzer tonight and unfortunately she got knocked out far too early. She had to compete against another young woman for the final spot on the women’s team. And there she qualified for Las Vegas. But up next was Daniel Gil. He almost won a million dollars a couple of seasons back. He had to take off last season and so he was back now with a vengeance. The new obstacles didn’t even faze him because he flew by them so fast. He went on to become the second finisher of the night. And he got a chance to go after the Mega Warped Wall.

Which he easily defeated. Daniel was ten grand richer after conquering the Mega Warped Wall. He also finished with the fastest time and so it was Gary who was competing against another guy for the final spot on the guys’ team. Gary just needed to get further than his competitor however he chose to keep competing long after he earned a spot and he was close to finishing in the run offs when he fell again. And in spite of that, Gary still remains inspirational.

THE END!
