IN tonight’s Elsbeth episode, the quirky lawyer was back! Elsbeth visited the studio of “Way Late with Scotty Bristol”. She was visiting with a friend who was a guest on the late night television show and she met Scotty Bristol. He appeared nice to their faces while they were backstage. He was actually a jerk. He was a jerk to pretty much everyone that actually knew him.
This included guests on his tv show. Scotty was especially horrible to his sidekick, Mickey. Mickey did all sorts of stuff on the show and it was pure humiliation.
Only Scotty liked humiliating Mickey because it was his way of getting back at Mickey’s wife. Laurel Hammond-Muntz had two options when she met both men at the same time. It was either Mickey or Scotty. She chose Mickey because he was the better man. He was kind, empathetic, and he respected her.
She chose him and then Scotty did their best to ruin everything. He was the third wheel of their relationship. He convinced them not to have kids because he said the show was too important. He talked Laurel into becoming head writer of his tv show to always remain under his thumb.
Mickey’s part was to play the fool. Mickey’s health was deteriorating from all the stress. He has a heart condition. His wife wanted him to cut back on the job and Scotty always found a way to talk him around.
Laurel begged Mickey to quit if Scotty wouldn’t caught back on the bits. She was worried about her husband and was frustrated with the cruelty of Scotty. She finally had enough tonight. Laurel used Scotty’s old crush on her to convince him to go near the shredder and she used that to kill him tonight.
Using the shredder was very symbolic. Scotty nicknamed his personal shredder as “Mickey 2”. It was another dig at Mickey. He also used the shredder to destroy anything that the writers gave came up.
It was his torture method on the writers. He would destroy their work in the shredder before stealing something that other comedians submitted that week. The new cop working with Elsbeth was a part-time comic. She said that she swore they stole one of her jokes and she wasn’t upset. She was more upset that Scotty was dead than she was about the theft.
Officer Grace Hackett said comics has the lowest self-esteem because they take abuse daily. Elsbeth was visiting Angus in Scotland and so she was a little jetlagged, but she aware enough to know this was murder and not an accident. The others had thought it was an accident until she got talking.
Elsbeth pointed out there was an override button on the shredder. There was also a reverse button. Someone stopped Scotty from using either of them. They just didn’t know who. They thought the shredder was revenge. Their first suspects were the writers.
Not that they need to bother with them. They all have alibis. They were at Ronan’s gig. There were cameras there and so they were conveniently in the clear. Detective Smullen thought it was too convenient. He said they had the biggest motive to kill Scotty and they told him they didn’t have the courage for it.
They were employed as writers. They said that was the hardest job to get. They were fully prepared to debase themselves as long as it kept them employed. They were already sucking up to Scotty’s replacement, Ronan.
Scotty’s numbers have been in the toilet for a while now. He was constantly worried about Ronan. Who again had an alibi. The only two people that hated Scotty enough to not have one was the couple. Mickey and Laurel. Mickey found the body. He was coming up back in the elevator to issue an ultimatum.
He was going to tell Scotty he either gets time off or he quits. He never got the chance to even tell his wife about it because she had already killed Scotty by then. The cops interviewed Mickey again.
They asked him about Mickey 2. They asked him if it offended him. They asked him about his heart condition and what he was psyching himself up for in the elevator.
He told them he was going to quit. Elsbeth asked Laurel if she wanted Mickey to quit. She fobbed off the question by saying she wanted what was best for her husband. This little slip clued in Elsbeth. It also tipped off Mickey. Mickey waited until they were at home before he confronted her and then he saw for her face that she really did kill Scotty.
Mickey was so shocked by what his wife did that he had a heart attack. He died. Laurel then saw she had an opportunity. She put the blame for the murder all on Mickey. She said he confessed right before his massive heart attack. He was dead and so he couldn’t argue with her version of events.
Detective Smullen was willing to take it. It was merely Elsbeth that thought what happened was a little too convenient for Laurel. The one thing Laurel didn’t count on was the page. Scotty told the page everything. He mentioned all the horrible things he did to the couple to the page.
The page had an alibi by the way because he was also at Ronan’s show. Elsbeth used his help to entrap Laurel. They got her to confess to the murder.
Elsbeth walked away with all the office supplies from Scotty’s show. The show didn’t want it because it would be too depressing. Elsbeth got to hand out supplies to the police station. They’ve been suffering from budget cuts. It was either that or get rid of Elsbeth. And so Captain Wagner chose his friend.
And Ronan carried on with his show as well as his new sidekick, the old page.
THE END!
