Benedict Cumberbatch has become the new ‘It’ boy of Hollywood, although calling him boy at 37 years old might be inappropriate. Shooting to fame with his brilliant portrayal of Sherlock, he’s since landed in several Hollywood blockbusters and has a whopping five mainstream releases in 2013.
Obviously, this has led to a lot of speculation around his love life, speculation in which he refuses to participate. He’s been linked to everyone from Liv Tyler to his Sherlock co-star Lara Pulver, but it was the series of photographs published during his vacation in Ibiza that caused a fan furor. He was seen kissing Katia Elizarova, a 27-year-old theater actress, Russian model, and supposedly a ‘friend’ of Benedict’s. But as far as I know, you don’t kiss you friends on the mouth, do you?
Anyway, Katie was recently interviewed in an extensive piece by The Standard in the UK, and Benedict’s name was brought up in the conversation. Katie was discussing the difference between Russian and English men, and when Benedict’s name was mentioned, she replied, “Why do you ask me about him? Oh no!” She reportedly refused to answer any questions about him, but she did say that he had ‘nice manners’. Is that a euphemism for something else? I’m not sure. But it’s interesting that she didn’t deny the speculation or say he’s not her boyfriend. Instead, she just refused to answer questions about him. Hmm…
Anyway, the interview itself is not very illuminating about her relationship with Benedict, but for now, I think we can all assume they’re just friends with benefits – either that, or he’s dating her and he doesn’t want people to know. With the increased paparazzi and media attention in Benedict and with awards season upon us, I’m sure we’ll eventually find out.
