The Young and the Restless Spoilers Update & Recap: Monday, August 31 – Adam's New Monster Memory, Delia Issues – Rey Suspicious

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update and recap for Monday, August 31, teases that the drama will continue in Genoa City. At home, Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) can tell Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) drained after flying to Kansas.

Sharon knew Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) was on the verge of a major breakthrough, so she’s glad she was there for him.

Later, Sharon takes a call from Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Victor inquires about Adam, but Sharon isn’t wiling to say much. This is Adam’s story to tell. At the ranch, Victor hangs up as Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) arrives.

Victoria blames the visit on the kids wanting to come and doesn’t think there’s anything they have to say to each other. Victor disagrees and argues they actually have a lot to discuss.

Talk turns to the numbers on the new deals, which Victor’s willing to admit were good. Victor also has some positive things to say about Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) becoming COO. Victor thinks there’s still common ground to be found with Victoria.

Victoria wonders if Victor expects them to just drop everything and let bygones be bygones. Victor notes there’s still an issue they need to address. Victoria assumes that’s Adam, and they’re never going to agree on that.

Victor protests that Adam’s his son – his flesh and blood! He’s always going to help his children.

Victoria feels like Victor’s priority is Adam and the rest of them are collateral damage. In Monday’s Y&R episode, Victoria wishes Victor had handled the CEO situation with Adam differently, but he didn’t.

Life is full of choices, and there are consequences for those decisions. Victoria leaves in a huff.

At the penthouse, Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) is upset about Adam coming home from the airport and taking off again.

Adam explains he went for a walk and didn’t want Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) to see him like that. He doesn’t want Connor to know any details of what happened in Kansas.

Adam talks about how he had to know the real truth about AJ Montalvo’s death, so Chelsea wonders if he feels better now that he knows. After Adam lowers his head somberly, Chelsea wishes she could stop his pain. Although Chelsea thinks time will help, Adam insists this isn’t going away.

Chelsea gives Adam a pep talk, but he thinks she’s trying to minimize what he did. They discuss Connor and Adam argues that a boy should be able to look up to his father.

Chelsea wants Adam to focus on how he can get through this and keep his family together.

“What are you saying? You’re leaving?” Adam asks. Chelsea immediately dismisses the idea and insists she’s not going anywhere. Neither is Connor, but Chelsea’s seen Adam spin out like this before.

She doesn’t want him taking off again and assures Adam that everything he needs is right here. “This is your home. This is where you belong,” Chelsea promises.

At Chancellor Communications, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) overhears Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) wrapping up a business call. Jack’s impressed and admits he decided to come see Billy’s new digs.

Billy’s surprised that Jack just wanted “to hang,” so Jack suggests that’s exactly what this is. “Let’s hang!” Jack exclaims.

In Monday’s Young and the Restless episode, Jack and Billy discuss the recent acquisitions from Newman Enterprises. Billy thinks they owe Victor “the black knight” their gratitude for making Victoria mad enough to sell.

Jack and Billy don’t think Victor can hit the reset button with Victoria like he has in the past.

The conversation shifts to Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) being Chance Comm’s new hire. Billy admits it’s ironic that he’s worried about Theo being a screwup, but he thinks he can help the kid. Jack feels like he’s seeing a new sense of lightness in Billy. He’s proud of Billy for what it’s worth. “It’s worth a lot, big brother,” Billy admits.

Jack talks about there being good days and bad when it comes to Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams). He misses the woman she once was, but there’s still someone in there. Dina communicates less directly now, but she offered a message recently. Jack admits Dina wanted him to find love again.

“There is someone out there for me,” Jack says. “I just have to find her.” Jack wants Billy to keep himself open to the possibility of love, too. Later, Billy looks at news updates on his phone about Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) joining the team at Chance Comm.

Back at the cottage, Rey reflects on waiting for Sharon at the diner in Kansas. He felt like he should give Sharon space to work, but he worried about Adam having a meltdown and Sharon being in danger.

Sharon argues that Rey was great backup, but he’s seen too many cases where the backup doesn’t get there in time. “I don’t want to be your backup, Sharon. I want to be your partner,” Rey says.

Rey wants to help and guesses that since they’re dealing with repressed memories, maybe someone did something to Adam back then. He notes that there can be exceptions when it comes to the statute of limitations.

Rey’s trying to turn this into a case in Sharon’s eyes, but he argues this is what he does – he gets justice for the victims.

Sharon doesn’t want Rey to go down his path. She doesn’t know what justice would look like in this situation and angrily demands that he drop it. Sharon calms down, but she doesn’t want him jumping to conclusions and concocting a story.

It’s complicated and this isn’t going to help Adam. Rey agrees to try shutting off that part of his brain, but he wants Sharon to reevaluate whether all this is worth it.

Rey doesn’t get how Sharon isn’t seeing the red flags. He knew this would be intense, but this is more than dedication. Rey complains about what Sharon’s gotten herself into – and only after a couple sessions.

He wonders where this goes from here. Sharon thanks Rey for opening up and gets that the situation’s not ideal, but she’s going to honor her commitment no matter what.

Rey’s going to work and won’t be home until late. Sharon can tell he’s angry, but Rey contends that he’s frustrated. There are two questions with no answers for Rey. “Why can’t Adam let somebody else save him, but more importantly, why can’t you?” Rey asks Sharon.

At the penthouse again, Adam sees a fruit bowl on the table that triggers more Kansas memories. Adam recalls a younger version of himself eavesdropping on a panicked Hope Wilson and a reassuring Victor.

Victor’s glad George walked in when he did and called him instead of the police. Hope’s worried her son will be taken from her, but Victor promises that’s not going to happen.

As the flashback continues, Hope admits George described the look on Adam’s face in the aftermath as “so calm.” She thinks Adam seems disconnected from the whole thing, so Victor suggests there’s a chance the boy will never remember.

Young Adam rubs his eyes and the back of his head as he becomes agitated – and it flashes back to agitated Adam in the present.

Chelsea finds Adam, who admits he remembered something. Adam argues that his parents knew all this time and now he knows. Chelsea wonders what Adam means. “Who I am and what I’ve been since the day I was born,” Adam declares.

Adam frets about putting his mom through that and being some kind of monster. He feels like Victor thought he’d always be a threat.

Adam notes that AJ threatened him as well, so it was self-serving and not just about his mother. “You are not the villain! Why can’t you see that?!” Chelsea shouts.

Chelsea justifies Adam’s actions, but Adam wonders how Chelsea would feel if she found out Connor killed someone. Adam thinks Chelsea would be scared to death if that happened. Chelsea argues that she would understand and doesn’t buy the idea that Adam’s a killer.

“What about Delia?” Adam wonders. Adam didn’t march down to the station and turn himself in when that happened. A little girl died and he covered up his actions.

Adam brings up Vegas next, but Chelsea repeats that Adam’s not a killer. Chelsea knows that in her heart.

Adam keeps arguing that he wanted AJ death and left him bleeding on the floor. Nothing Adam’s said has changed Chelsea’s mind. Chelsea knows Adam’s pushing her away, but she feels he deserves love and is a good man.

Moments later, the doorbell rings and Adam opens it to find Victor.

The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that Victor’s sure to have some interesting things to say, so stay tuned to Y&R. CDL will have tons of other Young and the Restless spoilers, updates and news to read up on, so be sure to stop by again soon.
