Magnum’s new friend Bob Braddick passed away. The man was in a retirement home and dying when they met, but Magnum still came to care for him. He attended the funeral. His friends joined him there and they met Bob’s family in person. Bob, it seems had left a gift for Magnum. It was a thank you for reuniting him with his big brother. It also came with a message to never wait too long on enjoying life and so Magnum was thinking about that when he learned that Higgins has a new man in her life. She was texting Cole. He was her young friend Ella’s father. He was also a widower. He was a good guy. Handsome, employed.

There was nothing bad that could be said about Cole. Sure, he has a daughter. But Ella and Higgins were friends. She genuinely liked Higgins. Maybe not enough to replace her mother only the like was there. Higgins also seemed to be enjoying herself with Cole. She wouldn’t tell Magnum much. She simply said they were at the texting stage and he was being good about it until he got a call. The call was from Gordo. He asked him to come down to the station and Magnum at first thought he was in trouble when he wasn’t. Gordo just wanted to ask about Sebastian Nuzo. Magnum’s friend died years ago.

But it seems Nuzo was the suspect in a murder. Not a recent murder. A murder that took place four years ago. HPD unearthed a body that’s been in the ground for four years and whoever buried the guy wasn’t a pro at this. They were a newbie. They killed and buried Bruce Fletcher with all his teeth. His hands. They also threw in his cell phone. The cellphone was plugged in and that’s how they got a hold of his messages. Nuzo was threatening to kill him for cutting him out of a deal. This is why Nuzo is a chief suspect and Magnum was directly asked about this. He chose to lie to his friend. He said he never heard of Fletcher before this.

Which wasn’t true. Nuzo hired Magnum to go look for Fletcher and Magnum found the guy. Magnum knows that Flecther claimed to have found a multi-million dollar ship that allegedly sunk off the coast of Oahu. He told Nuzo about it. He even offered to cut Nuzo in on the ship’s reported treasure. All Fletcher needed was two grand and some diving equipment. Nuzo gave it to him. Then Fletcher ghosted him. Fletcher disappeared and Magnum tracked him down. He got lucky with Fletcher being a gym rat. The man just couldn’t stay away from the gym and so Magnum tracked him. And he passed the information on to Nuzo.

Nuzo’s last words on Fletcher were that he was going to handle it. Magnum never asked how and a few short months later his friend was killed anyways. No one paid attention to Fletcher. Only they should have. Magnum was worried about what his friend might have done and so he lied to Gordo. He went back to his team however and he told them everything. He asked for their help in clearing Nuzo’s name. His friends thought it best to bring Gordo into the investigation and Magnum ignored them. He took less talking to them than the apparition he was seeing of Nuzo. The Nuzo was something from his subconscious.

The fake Nuzo kept reminding Magnum that he should have said something to Gordo. The only reason he hadn’t was because there’s a small part of Magnum that thought Nuzo could be guilty. Magnum never did forgive himself for his friend’s death. He blames himself. Its why he couldn’t let Nuzo go down in the books as a criminal. It would risk the pension his family was collecting. Magnum later went to go talk to Nuzo’s family when he found HPD there. Gordo had found out about Nuzo hiring Magnum to locate Fletcher. He thought that made Nuzo look guilty. He wanted to pursue the case to a conclusion, but his conclusion was dictated by facts and nothing more.

Magnum continued to look into Fletcher’s death. He found out that Fletcher was bragging about clearing his debts before he disappeared. Magnum thought he must have found the treasure but it turns out he found something else. Fletcher found a container dropped in the bottom sea had people in it. He came across a human trafficking ring and he tried to get rich out of it. Only the bad guys killed him.

Magnum solved Fletcher’s murder. He brought in Gordo and this thankfully saved Nuzo’s benefits for his family.

But no more lies. Or else it was going to risk Magnum and Gordo’s friendship.
