Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Best and Worst of 2019, DOOL Year in Review – What Was Hot and NOT in Salem

Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that it’s almost the end of the year, which means it’s time to review some shocking storylines and major developments. Plenty of drama went down in Salem, so there’s a lot to cover! Let’s look at the best and worst of Days in 2019.

First, we should talk about what was perhaps the most-buzzed-about twist in soaps. Days of Our Lives jumped forward one year, which was quite a gamble. The decision has certainly been a polarizing one since some viewers loved the fresh excitement and others became frustrated with the sudden heartache all over town.

However, the time jump allowed the show to set up some big reveals and skipped over what could’ve been boring steps to get to them. We didn’t have to watch the pregnancies play out or new romances slowly bloom. DOOL just jumped ahead to the juicy material, so we’d say the twist belongs in the plus category – especially since the mysteries it provided are still unraveling.

As for Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford), his character delivered some of the best and worst material this year. Jack’s mayoral run with Eve Donovan (Kassie DePaiva) by his side was just plain awful, but his memory flood later was a long-awaited relief. It’s been wonderful to watch Jack and Jennifer Deveraux’s (Melissa Reeves) love story get back on track.

Brandon Barash was another bright spot as a Stefan DiMera recast – and Stefan’s hate-turned-to-love romance with Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus) was positively sizzling. They were arguably the hottest couple on Days of Our Lives this year.

Of course, Stefan’s untimely death falls on the worst list. It was a massive “what were they thinking” moment, so it’s great that the show’s undoing their mistake and bringing Stefan back. Watching Lani Price (Sal Stowers) beg Gabi on her knees for Stefan’s heart also falls in the worst category. It was silly at best and offensive at worst.

Nevertheless, the decision to push Gabi into full-blown vixen territory has been a fantastic one. You may love her, hate her or love to hate her, but Banus nails Gabi’s attitude and confidence. Gabi just works best when she’s ruthless and doesn’t care who knows it. That made Gabi and Stefan’s relationship even more interesting since they were both shady and loved each other anyway.

Days has also been good about return stints this year. It was nice to see Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) and Anna DiMera (Leann Hunley) finally get a sweet reunion. Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and Abigail DiMera’s (Kate Mansi) latest return stint has also been a nice way to round out the younger set.

Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) also made a Days comeback in 2019 – although Zucker was playing Kristen DiMera underneath a mask at first. Some might object to the twist, but masks are nothing new on soaps. It was fun to see Zucker play another version of her character. Plus, it led to Eric finally finding his way back to the real Nicole, which ended his romance with Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey).

Speaking of Sarah, she was part of this year’s worst love triangle: Sarah, Eric and Rex Brady (Kyle Lowder). It was tough to root for Sarah to get together with either guy! Sarah and Rex’s quickie hospital chapel nuptials also deserve DOOL’s worst wedding distinction.

Lani and Eli’s wedding was the best of the year despite it not being completed. Everyone looked gorgeous and Days really did it up right! As for Gabi’s pacemaker blackmail, that gets our pick for worst secret. Why on earth didn’t Detective Price just arrest Gabi on the spot?! Instead, she gave up the man she loved and nearly became a nun at an Italian convent, so Lani hasn’t looked too bright in this story.

On another positive note, it’s been nice to see more of Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) – even if his new romance with Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans) has moved way too fast. Cast balance is something else Days has done well this year. It feels like we always get a nice mix of younger characters and older vets. They’re even involved in stories together, so other soaps could take a few notes in that department.

Overall, it’s been an exciting year on the NBC soap! What were your picks for best and worst of DOOL this year? Days of Our Lives spoilers say there’s so much more to come in 2020, so stay tuned.
