The Voice RECAP 6/10/13: Season 4 - The Live Semifinal Performances

We are down to the top 5 contestants and we are in the Semifinals on this season of THE VOICE.  On tonight’s show  all five remaining artists give do-or-die performances in their quest to make the finals. Did you watch last week’s episodes where two contestants were sent home? We did and we recapped it for you here.

On last week’s show the remaining six artists were back onstage, ready to learn which five of them would advance to this week’s semifinals. Holly Tucker, The Swon Brothers, Michelle Chamuel, Sasha Allen and Amber Carrington knew it could well be their last time on the show.  By the end of the show Holly Tucker was heading home.

On tonight’s show the top artists perform live in front of coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher for America’s vote.   Remember there are not more saves – so it really is do-or-die tonight.   Usher will also be performing live his new single, “Twisted.” After The Voice tonight we will  get a sneak peak of the new NBC show The Winner Is.

Tonight’s show opens with Usher performing his new single, “Twisted.”

ROUND 1

First up tonight is The Swon brothers singing, “Turn The Page” by Bob Seger.  They dedicated the song to the boys in Oklahoma. [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments: Usher said, “This was definitely a kickoff tonight, you guys did an incredible job, good job.”  Adam Levine said, “Man it is cool, I appreciate you, another great performance, good on you!”  Blake said, “I am so blown away, it sets the bar really high for tonight.  American has been watching you guys and I really think as far as big steps, we have seen the biggest growth in the Swon brothers. You continue to blow people away!”

Sasha Allen singing, “I will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston.  She dedicated the song to the two most important people in her life, her children. [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments:  Adam said, “That is one of the hardest songs to sing, I have nightmares about them, they are incredible hard to deal with.  You did an incredible job, you were not intimidating anyone and you did it your own way.  Great job!”  Usher said, “OMG in singing a Whitney Houston song you cannot sing it with out taking into account the singer she was.  You really did an amazing job and that voice will keep you here.”  Shakira said, “It was so beautiful and so pure and you should feel amazing.  My Mom is sitting in the audience and she has been asking me why you have not sung a Whitney song.  You did amazing, you made Whitney fans very proud.”

Michelle Chamuel singing “Clarity” by Zedd. [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments: Adam said, “I feel like a broken record, because every week I tell you I love you.  You are amazing and you always are.”  Blake said, “As opposing team coach you hope someone will stumble, but you never do.  You are always solid.”  Usher said, “I am proud you never mess up, you brought your A game.   I am happy about who you are becoming and how you show the world who you are.”

Danielle Bradbery went home to her family in Texas and visited her high school.  She sang, “Please Remember Me” by Tim McGraw. [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments: Usher said, “It was incredible, it was absolutely fantastic.  What you pocess is genuine.”  Adam Levine said, “You cannot sing a song better than you just did that.  From a technical standpoint it does not get more proficient than that.”  Blake Shelton said, “Man,
let me start by telling you why I wanted you to do that song.  The thing that impressed me so much is you land on a note and you stay
there, it is unbelievable.  All your notes are the best they can be.   You do not have any weakness in your singing.”

Amber Carrington dedicated her song to her friends in Texas and she sang Katy Perry’s “Firework.” [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments: Blake said, “At the beginning of it I was not sure because it was not a country song.  But by the end the power of your voice was phenominal.  You are just so good.”  Shakira said, “Adam is going to have to add this site to the list of nightmare songs, but you did great.”   Adam said, “When I reached out to Katie about this song she asked if I was nuts.  You sang it well, it is difficult to sing.  The cool thing is you can sing anything. “

ROUND 2

The Swon brothers sang, “Danny’s Song” by Kenny Logins. [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments: Usher said, “Every week you guys come out and surprise us.  It was great to see you go back home.  You guys I have to commend you, you are making us love country.”  Adam said, “I was excited because that is one of my favorite songs and it is the first one I have known very well you have done.  You did an amazing version.”  Blake said, “I think , there is nothing I can say it was unbelievable, it was amazing.”

Sasha Allen sang Bad Girls by Donna Summers. [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments: Adam said, “That was like the 70s, that was amazing.  It is an amazing choice.  You were amazing and you always are.”  Usher  said, “Your performance was incredible.  I was really happy to see the performance.”  Shakira said, “We had a standing ovation from Usher, how fantastic was that?  You made this so magical, I feel like you started as a voice but we did not have a clue how great a performer you could turn into.”

Danielle Bradbery sang “Who Am I” by Jessica Andrews [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments: Usher said, “The  audience love it and you made us feel how much you love your family.  Incredible performance.  That is why you are still here.”  Shakira said, “You are such a little star, that was amazing.  Soon I will say I knew you when.”  Blake Shelton said, “To talk about your singing is redundant.  You are a star, a super star!”

Amber Carrington sang “Sad” by Maroon 5 [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments:  Blake Shelton said, “I am always blown away by you, I cannot wait to buy one of your records.  You are such an emotional singer.”  Usher said, “Everyone back home is probably very proud of you.  Congratulations I am blown away.”  Adam Levine said, “Well, you sang my song better than I did.  That was incredible!”

Michelle Chamuel sang “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper  [VIDEO HERE]

Judges Comments: Shakira said, “I  feel that you keep growing so much and I look forward to everything you  have to show us each week.  You are one of my favorite in the competition.”  Adam Levine said, “You did this amazing version where you did it to the next level.  You are amazing.”  Usher said, “Thank  you so much for dedicating this to me.  My God, you are the winner.  We  continue to let the world know you can do what you want to do.”
